There is no other way to say it. What was described is attempted rape.

Trigger Warning.
Ford said that on the night of the party, she left the family room to use the bathroom, which was at the top of a narrow stairway. She doesn’t remember whether Kavanaugh and Judge were behind her or already upstairs, but she remembers being pushed into a bedroom and then onto a bed. Rock-and-roll music was playing with the volume turned up high, she said.

She alleges that Kavanaugh — who played football and basketball at Georgetown Prep — held her down with the weight of his body and fumbled with her clothes, seemingly hindered by his intoxication. Judge stood across the room, she said, and both boys were laughing “maniacally.” She said she yelled, hoping that someone downstairs would hear her over the music, and Kavanaugh clapped his hand over her mouth to silence her.

At one point, she said, Judge jumped on top of them, and she tried unsuccessfully to wriggle free. Then Judge jumped on them again, toppling them, and she broke away, she said.

She said she locked herself in the bathroom and listened until she heard the boys “going down the stairs, hitting the walls.” She said that after five or 10 minutes, she unlocked the door and made her way through the living room and outside. She isn’t sure how she got home.


There are many reasons I believe that Kavanaugh should not be allowed to sit on the Supreme court, Most of them are political, as he is conservative and I am not. It has been those reasons that I have largely and reluctantly accepted the idea that he would be voted in. The GOP has the majority. While I deeply believe that a pResident under federal investigation should not be allowed to select any Supreme Court justice, we are also dealing with a very corrupt and complicit majority party. My biggest focus has been regaining a Democratic majority and starting to undo the damage and fix what is being broken.

That all changed over the weekend. Rape and sexual assault -- including attempted rape --- are a line in the sand. I don't care how nice people say that he is. What happened that summer, probably 1982 was just as much attempted rape as it is today. What is described in the article above is a criminal act.

Years ago, I shared my story of rape in college. I also had a very similar experience at a party the summer after I graduated from High School. 2 boys -- one on top of me -- and I escaped as well. 33 years ago. No one would have believed me then. No one would have believed Dr. Christine Blasey Ford either.

I am sick and tired of people trying to define what is and is not rape, including attempted rape. Now is the time to believe the Dr. and say no to letting a rapist sit on the SCOTUS with the ability to judicially decided what is and is not rape.

On today’s topic...remember some months back when I noted my only concern about the Me Too movement? At the time, it seemed to me that if you wanted to destroy someone, all you needed to do was even hint at it, since “innocent until proven guilty” seemed to have gone away?

Funny how quickly that changed. Six months ago this wouldn’t have been a question, Kavanaugh would have been ruined, and rightly so. But since it’s ‘their guy’...well , the hypocrisy continues to show.
