Last one out, turn off the lights.

Oh wait, My bad. This was the White house Last night:

With protests all over the nation, over 100,000 Americans dead from a pandemic, over 40 million people unemployed, and this is what the White House.did - they turned the lights off.
It was also reported last night that the president took shelter in the White House bunker on Friday as crowds gathered outside of the White House that evening to protest police violence against the black community. Peaceful gatherings took a turn after dark as protesters clashed with law enforcement and lit fires near the building.

Rattled by the escalating tension outside the gates, the Secret Service briefly took Trump to the Presidential Emergency Operations Center, an underground bunker that is used to shelter presidents during threatening situations, on Friday for nearly an hour, according to The New York Times. The Associated Press reported that Trump and his family were shaken by the experience and the size of the protests. Although it’s unclear whether Melania and Barron Trump were also taken to the bunker, security protocol would have required them to be sheltered as well.

In the past, the bunker has been reserved for situations like terrorist attacks: former President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney had taken shelter in the bunker following the Al Qaeda attacks on September 11, 2001.

That's some it's-turned-up-to-eleven level symbolism. I am furious and sad at once. Please stay safe out there.

and
Raine

Mornin!

So what exactly is going on down in DC? There's a lot of chatter about a total communications blackout within the district after about 1AM til after sunrise, but now I'm starting to see people say that was not true & claiming that saboteurs are trying to sow confusion.

Yeah - I've been watching a lot of live stream coverage & this morning they're all mentioning that hash in some way.

I think this is a disinformation campaign.

Greetings from New England.

Please remember to remind any friends you have left that voted for Trump, "This is exactly what you voted for, I hope you're happy now. And also, Fuck You."

I don't know what we are anymore, but the United States has fallen.

Heard that too, about it being disinformation or just someone stirring things up.

It's a civil war.

Its almost worth a post on its own...

The footage and photographs are disturbing. These lawless rioters are out of control. They have driven an SUV into a crowd, tossed journalists to the ground and pepper sprayed them, beaten people with batons, and even blinded a woman in one eye. They have been launching unprovoked attacks on peaceful, law-abiding citizens exercising their constitutional rights. The violent behavior of these mobs should be condemned by all. We need to restore order: someone must stop the police.

*snip*

The whole reason protesters are angry is that it seems American cops can get away with almost anything. In 2016, an Arizona police officer executed a man who was pleading for his life. It was on video. The officer was acquitted. This was not an exceptional case; it happens over and over.

Theoretically and intellectually, in the context of this particular protest, smashing up and burning a police car, and setting trash cans on fire in front of a state capitol makes sense.

Smashing up an Alex and Ani, or looting an Uggs store on Newbury Street or the Copley Place Mall (over a mile away from the seat of power), WTF?

Even Manassas had protests this weekend.

First Saturday night where the protested shut down a huge intersection and faced off with Prince William County police and my state Rep got flash banged when he tried to talk to them (the police).
Sudley Manor Protest

Then last night where hundreds of people showed up and so did the Chief Keen and other officers to join with them to talk. I've met Keen several times, he's always tried to make the police part of the community here. Liberia Protest

I hang my flags vertically from my front portico. Therefore, I regret I am unable to fly a US flag upside-down today.

Hello, bloggers!!!

I am not full of much hope today. A nearby shopping mall -- less than 5 miles from me - has been looted and the town I live in was under curfew last night. A friend said major entrances into her town from where I live in Hammond will be blocked today to prevent the possibility of people travelling from where I live to another, wealthier community very easily.

I am also giving up on posting Facebook memes as one that was posted with good intentions or so I thought, lead to me blocking someone. (I will likely avoid political discussions on Facebook.) I have never seen our country so divided in my lifetime. There are some days when I wonder if the best thing for the planet might be an asteroid strike as human beings seem to have fubared everything. This is one of those days.

I'm hearing that protests are about to start up again in Philadelphia.

Comment by Raine on 06/01/2020 16:02:31
This is absolutely chilling.

The NYPD union apparently doxxed De Blasio's daughter, who was in attendance at the protests in NYC yesterday & was arrested.
