Smoke and Mirrors

Something happened this morning. As the saying goes, "The lady doth protest too much, methinks..."

Now you recall early last month there were negotiations for a bipartisan 1/6 committee. Of note:
Democrats emphasized that the compromise bill on the floor on Wednesday incorporated GOP demands that the commission include an equal ratio of Democrats and Republicans and coequal subpoena power. Katko had rebuffed an earlier proposal from Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) that would have allowed Democrats to appoint seven members over four for Republicans.
Boldface mine. Those compromises were put into the package. The GOP accepted them and went on to vote against the commission.

They all accepted such offers. I guess McCarthy should have stripped them of their assignments a month ago. This stunt smells of fear and desperation. Per WaPo:
Pelosi’s proposal would give her eight picks and Republicans five. The fact that so many reported this suggests it was proactively put out by Pelosi’s team and will probably happen. It also helps that even including a Pelosi-appointed Republican would mean the committee would have a majority of Democrats — at least 7 of 13 members.
They could have had everything they wanted, instead, they got nothing, as it were.

Now their own caucus leader is threatening them. Someone knows something, and it's time we get to the bottom of this.

One more thing. There is an alleged sex trafficker sitting on the Judiciary committee. McCarthy hasn't even suggested to even temporarily remove that member from the assignment. Judiciary oversees the DOJ, and the DOJ is investigating.

Let's face it, they aren't governing, they are trying to cover up a deadly insurrection -- and god only knows what else.

Raine

Morning

Well Pelosi could appoint Gaetz to the commission, that's one way to get him off the committee maybe.

Good morning, bloggers!!!!

The GOP (Grasping Old Plutocrats) has nothing left to offer but fear and fealty to a man that they fear will endorse primary challengers. So, while this is wrong, I am not very surprised.

I hope she doesn't -- one other thing I am thinking is that this may also be a ploy to get the worst of the worst on the committee-- bait and switch.

Nancy Pelosi doesn't play with fire.

The other one (AFP v Bonta) is just as bad. Both 6-3.

We need to either get more justices or get more Democrats who will support voting rights legislation.

Also, it is time to stop bringing a feather duster to a fight. It is time to be ruthless. If all the GOP will do is play hardball, it is time to play hardball as well.

Republicans are hell-bent on destroying the Union.

That is all.

It is still straight fascism, no matter how they try to sugar coat it.

In the end, power is their only goal so that they can serve their backers.

I honestly think she should've chosen both Cheney and Kinzinger. That would make the committee almost even.

She still gets to approve of the other GOP's.

If McCarthydoesn't pick him or anyone -- Kinsinger will be there. I think she's still trying to give him a chance to back out of his corner.

That said, he probably won't.

Indeed. Tomorrow marks 300 days since my last tour.

Don't think I ever told you guys - I walked away from this last year with literal tears in my eyes. It was a brutal winter for me. Never thought I would be happy working again.

When I came back, and I played my tour soundtrack for the first time in a year (I never took it off my phone), there were some tears of joy in coming back.

The big thing, and *why* this is what it is to me - my epiphany that came some three months into driving when I started in 2017.

I am from a family of musicians - My father, both grandfathers, and one great grandfather were all working musicians. I'm in the family business again too - only I DRIVE my stage.

There is no business like show business. It is true.
