In the way and not aware.

Dateline, August 4th 2021. "I think the question is, we can either have a free society or we can have a biomedical security state, and I can tell you Florida, we're a free state," DeSantis said. "People are gonna be free to choose to make their own decisions about themselves, about their families, about their kids' education and about putting food on the table." More from NBC Miami:
On Tuesday, Biden criticized DeSantis and other Republican governors for not mandating lockdowns and other measures aimed at containing the delta strain of the COVID-19 virus. Florida has seen hospitalization rates spike in recent days as more delta cases are confirmed.

“If you’re not going to help, at least get out of the way of people trying to do the right thing," Biden said.

On Wednesday, DeSantis was defiant in response to Biden's suggestion.

"Joe Biden suggests that if you don't do lockdown policies then you should quote 'get out the way,'" DeSantis said. "But let me tell you this, if you're coming after the rights of parents in Florida, I'm standing in your way. I'm not gonna let you get away with it."

The governor also called out Biden over mask mandates in schools. Last Friday, DeSantis issued an executive order ordering school districts not to mandate the use of masks or they could risk losing state funding. Some school districts have already said they will defy the governor's order.
Fast forward a week.
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – As a result of the increase in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, the state of Florida requested 300 ventilators from the federal government, according to a Department of Health and Human Services planning document obtained by ABC News.

The request was made on Friday “to replace expended state stores,” the document said.

The ventilators were expected to be delivered on Monday, though it was not said how they will be allocated.

Gov. Ron DeSantis said Tuesday that he was not aware of such a request when asked about it.
I would like to make a note that while the Governor of Florida is threatening to withhold School Leaders' Salaries if they require masks, the federal Government earmarked 15 billion dollars to Florida to help schools with the effects of the pandemic. As of the end of July it was largely unspent.
More than a year later, and now under President Joe Biden’s administration, the amount has spiked to some $15 billion — a largely unused stockpile of federal relief funds designated to pull Florida schools out of the COVID pandemic and mitigate its effects for this school year as well as the next few school years, according to data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Most of the dollars have yet to be disbursed to school districts for this past school year and this coming school year, and the 2021-22 academic year is just a few weeks away.

That means initiatives outlined by the federal government, such as tackling student learning losses during the pandemic, are stuck waiting to help vulnerable students.

“Every minute these funds sit in Tallahassee is time that the funds are not being used to help Florida’s students,” wrote Andrew Spar, president of the Florida Education Association, a statewide teacher union, who sent a letter to Gov. Ron DeSantis on July 21.
That's only a portion of the money sent to Florida under The American Rescue Plan. I don't want any Floridian to suffer, so I am fine with the ventilators being sent to the state. I am also fine with the Administration indicating that if the Governor does withhold the salaries of educators they will get paid by the Feds. However, maybe that particular money should be withheld from future federal investments to the state. This is insanity.

He really does need to get out of the way.

If Florida isn't going to be a part of the United States anymore, then they shouldn't get ANY federal funding. Period.

Good luck in hurricane season, asshats.

But the DeathSentence version of freedom doesn't allow people the freedom to protect themselves from idiotic anti-vaxxers.

DeSantis is such a bucket of skeaze. He takes the money from the federal government, doesn't spend it, then asks for ventilators.

The federal money should be taken back to cover the costs of the ventilators and the pay for educators with enough smarts and gumption to defy him on the anti-mask order.

Good afternoon all...

Well, I took an unscheduled trip to the doctor today. Been having this really concerning leg pain when I sleep, but it's not the usual cramps or nerve pain that I've already had problems with. The doc thinks it's lower back nerves. I'm just REALLY glad it's not a blood clot.

I am really glad as well, Scoop.

Sorry I didn't respond sooner.
