The right answer is: What if he is?

“. . . a mother in Arlington Cemetery. She had her head on the headstone of her son’s grave. The writing on the headstone gave his awards: Purple Heart. Bronze Star. He died in Iraq. It gave his date of birth, date of death. He was 20 years old. And at the top of the headstone, it didn’t have a Christian cross. It didn’t have a Star of David. It had the crescent and star of the Islamic faith. His name was Kareem Rashad Sultan-Khan, and he was an American.”

This is the photo he is referring:

The former Secretary of State, Colin Powell has died from COVID complications at the age of 84. We know his blemishes and I am not going to rehash that because as awful as his four years with that administration was, I believe in redemption.

He was one of the rare people from that era to do so. The video and quote above is part of the reason why I believe as much. In 2008, Mr. Powell believed that the party he was a member of was redeemable. He went on to endorse President Obama a second time. He would later endorse a fellow former Secretary of State, Hillary Rodham Clinton, stating " I think she's qualified, and the other gentleman is not qualified" His was among a list of over 78 prominent republicans to endorse her.

He also endorsed President Biden and spoke at the Democratic Convention last year, and still remained a vocal, but a highly critical member of the Republican party.

That changed on January 10 of this year.
Asked by CNN’s Fareed Zakaria whether he believes “fellow Republicans” who have not criticized President Trump “encouraged, at least, this wildness to grow and grow,” Powell responded that “they did, and that’s why I can no longer call myself a Republican.”

“I’m not a fellow of anything right now. I’m just a citizen who has voted Republican, voted Democrat throughout my entire career, and right now I’m just watching my country and not concerned with parties,” Powell said.

“I do not know how he was able to attract all of these people. They should have known better, but they were so taken by their political standing and how none of them wanted to put themselves at political risk. They would not stand up and tell the truth or stand up and criticize him, or criticize others,” he continued.
In other words, the Party known as Republicans are no longer redeemable.

Rest in Peace, Mr. Powell.

&.
Raine

In 2016:

So it was deeply troubling, and I think that it was a great intelligence failure on our part, because the problems that existed in that NIE should have been recognized and caught earlier by the intelligence community.

Raine, it was a student who threw the tennis ball in class. We have a few students scheduled to be removed from my classes. I am expecting to hear from the dean on who is responsible.

As the assistant principal said no one else is getting hit with tennis balls (never mind stink bombs and fart bombs in various classes and the library), I perhaps should treat this as a hostile work environment. I have joined the local AFT chapter.

Mornin' all..

Perhaps Powell's passing will wake some people up to the fact that their irresponsible actions have consequences for other people. He likely wouldn't have died if he hadn't had a severely compromised immune response.

Having cancer and its associated treatment really opens your eyes to such things.

Its was ok - guess I'd had unrealistic expectations so at the time I was a little disappointed. But getting to do 1 thing that was normal for us this time of year felt good.

Greetings, comrades!

A fine weekend was had by all out at Nobscot Scout Reservation - there were over 400 scouts in camp this weekend. I did find it rather encouraging. Maybe we'll survive after all.

It's weird that two of Fox News's "journalists" were former VJ's (John Roberts and Kennedy).

He deleted it, then posted a thread claiming he wasn't spreading misinformation. Which he was by not mentioning the fact that Powell was immuno-compromised.

I'll be off to the Y soon. Far more interested in roasting myself in the sauna than swimming today.

God forbid they admit and apologize.

This goes directly to why I wrote what I wrote for the blog today,

Do you think the students are "hazing the new guy", or do you just have a particularly high percentage of asshole kids in your class?
