This is what it's about

I am not a parent. I am an Aunt and a Great Aunt and I shamefully will admit that I have never asked any of the young adults and kids in my life if they have ever had an active shooter drill.

I must also admit, that while the media talks about them, they never really tell you about them. David Hogg, a graduate of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High, did what so few seem to do.

For some reason, the blog cut off the part after that tweet.

Some of these kids are now adults. They know what to expect, which means, should they now decide to shoot up a school, they now know what to do as a shooter.

Is this a fair wonder?

Good Morning.

I am the parent...Javi has had several of these drills and istructions over his schooling career. But he was indoctrinated from the very beginning. He views these things as we used to view fire drills. Utterly routine and normal.

Which is utterly wrong and horrifying.

(Will watch video - after the wild day we had in the city yesterday, listening to some pastoral symphonic music right now, still trying to decompress.)

I have to ask whether we will be able to see any changes this year. I fear that we have too many politicians in the pockets of the NRA to see much change. Perhaps there is no better argument for changing Congress than that we cannot guarantee that our kids will be safe.

As for arming teachers, classrooms are already dangerous enough. Teachers are not police officers. Nor would I trust guns to be secure in a classroom.

This was the major contributing factor for the gridlock downtown yesterday. (Many streets closed.)

Nevertheless, a significant and proud moment for this city.

“This monument has been here for 125 years to say the Confederacy did not win that war,”
