It is better and not enough
Author: Raine    Date: 06/13/2022 13:18:15

About the proposed changes to gun law, they do not go far enough. That said this time something is better than nothing and if this legislation becomes law it will save lives.

On Saturday, across the Nation there were rallies to call for elected officials to make changes to our gun regulations. Would this time be different?

Maybe, but it is not the end. We must elect more people to office that want to go further. I mean, there has been an honest discussion about showing what the bodies of these children look like with the comparison to Mamie Till Mobley, the Mother of Emmit till. She had an open casket for her son's funeral. She did it to show the world what white national terrorism did to her son. But here is the thing, there have been open caskets.
“Yes,” the 18-year-old answered, smiling and extending her hand. This was her first trip away from home without an adult. She’d just graduated from Michigan’s Oxford High, where four students were killed in November, including one of Touray’s closest friends. She’d gone to funeral after funeral, staring into open caskets at swollen faces that looked nothing like the kids she knew.

Browning opened a black folder and removed a packet of documents that on one side read, “MARCH FOR OUR LIVES,” and on the other, “IT ENDS WITH US.”

But none of the people being handed the packets knew whether that was true. Many of them had been here before.
Responding with violence images of the actual violence may not be enough. We must elect more of the helpers.

Period.

Raine

Morning

Not good enough was my first thought too. It really burns by butt that we have a settle for what we can get after children are slaughtered.

Mornin' all..

This proposal (which isn't written into a bill yet) doesn't even begin to address the gun saturation problem. In fact, it completely bypasses it.

Once again, rampant end-stage capitalism protects itself while our children murder each other.

The hearing seems to have been delayed by about 30-45 minutes. TFG's campaign manager, Bill Stephian pulled out of live testimony about an hour ago due to a 'family Emergency'

How convenient. Sorry, but Republicans are so untrustworthy that having labor induced to throw a monkey wrench into the hearings isn't that unbelievable.

Morning

Sophie has her new food and I'm slowly mixing it in with her present food. Doesn't seem to mind yet. Still a 'maybe' for the weekend.

Good morning, bloggers!!!

We need stronger measures, but I will take what I can get as a start.

Sadly, I have to ask myself what it will take to move past this bill.

Trojanrabbit, it is hard to have any faith in the honesty of those around Trump. Indeed, it is logical to assume that they are lying when they speak.

I am on vacation.

The last few days of school were underwhelming, as I cleaned up and left.

I am waiting to hear on one interview and following up leads. I had one teacher tell me that many of them were jealous that I was leaving. (Among other things, the principal appointed herself chair of three departments.)

that last part sounds like an episode of Abbott Elementary.

(super great show, btw)

I thought I heard her say something like that, but wasn't totally sure because the sound on my speakers here in the office is woefully inadequate even at max volume.

She delivered that about as dead pan as a Vulcan would.

Meanwhile, the MAGA folks will ignore this or deride it. It is no longer about reaching them, nor has it been for a while. It is about reaching everyone else.

I doubt that the hardcore followers of the TFG would believe a denial from him, a chorus of archangels, and a stack of evidence that would reach to the moon.

Now is a good reminder that it was Rudy Guiliani who wanted to stop his Mayoral primary after the attacks on September 11.

I remember someone losing an election because votes were "found in a trunk". Where was that? Wisconsin? Florida?

There was so much crap flying around at the time, I can't remember where it was.

Dang it, missed a bunch cause I was delivering sandwiches to everyone not a manager. Oh and because my boss just had to tell me he was retiring at the end of the year, mostly because I'm getting dragged into a meet to help plan his retirement party. Seriously? The people how pushed me to PT want me to help plan retirement parties for one of them? Oy vey

Tell me about it. I obviously will be the professional I always am, but sheesh. Sometimes I wonder if they even suspect I have 1 foot out the door.

Oh and have another video interview tomorrow afternoon. I had a 3rd interview (in person) for NPL that got moved till next week b/c the manager got pulled to Baltimore last second. She said she was "really impressed" when we talked last week. It would be for a safety/training admin assistant, sound pretty interesting. ngl all this is super intimidating to change whole industries but I've done it before.

Howdy folks.

My favorite charter was today - I took members of the Boston Pops Orchestra Brass Quintet around to two public schools and a hotel for some pop-up concerts. A fine time was had by all.

I get to do it again Wednesday!!
