Truth and Consequences

One hundred years ago, the KKK was meant to be an anonymous "ghost", whose members were only known to other members. It was often common knowledge, however, that powerful people in the community could be amongst its ranks, with a wink and a nod to propriety. It was this membership that gave it its awful power to be shielded from legal consequences. The local terrorist cells (part of a larger national organization) were largely immune to local prosecution, since those who would ostensibly be doing the prosecuting were often in the membership.

While the KKK does still exist, there are more overt groups who take part in more direct combat with the U.S. power structure. As opposed to targeting people of color, they target the government. It would seem, then, that membership in these groups and taking part in their anti-government actions would preclude said membership from employment by or election to the government.

Yet, according to a leaked membership list, that is not the case:
The names of hundreds of U.S. law enforcement officers, elected officials and military members appear on the leaked membership rolls of a far-right extremist group that's accused of playing a key role in the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, according to a report released Wednesday.

The Anti-Defamation League Center on Extremism pored over more than 38,000 names on leaked Oath Keepers membership lists and identified more than 370 people it believes currently work in law enforcement agencies — including as police chiefs and sheriffs — and more than 100 people who are currently members of the military.

It also identified more than 80 people who were running for or served in public office as of early August. The membership information was compiled into a database published by the transparency collective Distributed Denial of Secrets.
(bold-face mine)

Of course - those caught up in this release are quickly trying to distance themselves, essentially using TFG's ruse of "they were only coffee boys". They - like New Mexico county commissioner Couy Griffin - may find themselves permanently without a government office:
A New Mexico state district court judge has disqualified county commissioner and Cowboys for Trump co-founder Couy Griffin from holding public office for engaging in insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
U.S. District Court Judge Francis Mathew issued a ruling Tuesday that permanently prohibits Griffin from holding or seeking local or federal office.

Griffin was previously convicted in federal court of a misdemeanor for entering Capitol grounds on Jan. 6, 2021. He was sentenced to 14 days and given credit for time served.

The ruling immediately removes Griffin from his position as a commissioner in Otero County.

I am looking forward to seeing what becomes of the coup supporters currently in Congress. May they too be permanently barred from our hallowed halls.

Also good morning to everyone who didn't steal nuclear data.

Good morning, bloggers!!!!

I am very concerned with these numbers as I have to question how safe that many Americans, including myself, are in this country. We have seen a rising tide of hate and people portraying themselves as victims even as they try to deny the rights of others.

As for the nuclear secrets revelations, I think that the TFG has proven once again that he cares nothing for America's relationships with our allies. He publicly revealed details of an Israeli operation against ISIS and Israeli intelligence had to scramble in response to this revelation. TFGs actions have helped reduce faith in America by many of our allies and makes us less safe than we were.

Personally, I think those docs were Israeli info and were gonna be given to the Saudi's -- that Kushner hedge fund isn't a gift, after all.

Mornin' all!

Welp, so much for Chris "Keep more of your" Doughty. And so much for Republican chances of keeping the MA governors seat in their hands.

I dunno... It makes no sense for him to sellout Israel. TFG was all buddy-buddy with both the Israelis AND the Saudis.

I feel like it's someone else. France or Germany perhaps. Iran at a long shot.
