Do you know what you get when you don't vote in state and local elections and allow the "Republican" Party to gain a supermajority?
Texas. There are other states for example, but the answer is Texas.
I'm not going to recount the dreadful news from over the weekend. From the (not even latest) mass shooting in Allen to the slaughter of migrants in Brownsville, this is the result of the GOP when there is not an opposition party to keep things in check.
Also in Texas? This madness.
People need to stop voting for those who will not curb gun violence. It is only going to get worse. Look at what is happening in Florida, Tennessee, Missouri, and other states that either have a GOP supermajority or are creeping toward it. It's not just the guns. They are taking away rights. Civil, Voting, and LGBT+ rights. They target marginalized communities. They want them erased.
Federal elections are important, but the authoritarian petri dishes exist in State legislatures, and right now, they are hazmat labs.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said up to 100 people were at the party when Zetino and another teen boy got into it with the parent.
The sheriff said both the boys and the father pulled handguns and opened fire on each other. Zetino was shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Zetino was said to be a friend of the girl who lives at the home.

Authorities have not released a motive, but a patch on the shooter’s chest said “RWDS,” an initialism that stands for Right Wing Death Squad, according to people familiar with the investigation.
