Just Something Off Topic
Author: wickedpam    Date: 02/27/2009 13:22:30

There are probably a lot more relevant things I could blog on. Congress Critters “twittering” before, during and after the Presidents speech, was it rude or not. The awesomeness of the speech that happened Tuesday night and the dull as dishwater respond from Piyush “The Exorcist” Jindal. The shovel ready projects that started yesterday giving people jobs and starting to move around money. There are so many worthwhile topics. It is however a Friday, and my brain is not in the mood to tackle anything big and important. Sorry.

Instead I’d like mention Crafting. I want to know what people do to keep themselves busy and that creates something new. It could be simple or something detailed and elaborate.

I’ve been finding that being able to create something has lightened some of the stress that’s been pressing down for all sorts of reasons. I’ve gone from crocheting hats and scarves to just now learning to decorate cakes. In between I’ve picked up all sorts of new skills, like making melt and pour soap, creating tile mosaics for table tops and the best thing is that I’ve been repurposing odds and ends to extend the use of something and save some money.

So what have you been up to?

Sorry for the lateness and the odd topic -my brain is just mush right now and I couldn't think of anything that I didn't have to do some heavy research for....

Morning Mala (& other 4Fers),

I like your post this morning, but if you like, I added a new post to my blog this morning that you are free to use. Don't feel obliged, but please know that I am more than willing to take a stab at trying to fill the shoes of the great vacationing Raine & BobR. When will our fearless leaders be back from their travels?

Cheers,

mfaye

 & :peace:

I'm still waiting for my break. I just seem to be hitting a lot of bad luck and most of it's money related.

sweetie - I don't believe in bad luck - if I pinned that term on everything unpleasant that happened to me I would be so depressed I wounldn't be able to function.

Hello all.

Looks like I'll be spending the weekend here at work, I'll have to make sure I bring something I can listen to loud so I don't doze off.

I've been trying to get myself back into the "electronics as a hobby" thing. Back in my youth I would build projects such as a darkroom timer or some piece of test equipment from a kit, or fiddle with the color TV I had sitting in the cellar that I rescued from a church auction. The electronics industry has changed so much; there's no place for hand assembled kits - except for niche stuff like the AM transmitter I built recently. My recent repair experience stunned me as to how my skills (requiring any type of dexterity) have pretty much disappeared, though I can still troubleshoot things. Plus, unless I can devote a good chunk of time in one sitting it doesn't make that much sense - I come home now and all I want to do is sleep. My "next" project is sitting on the bench waiting for me...though I now have until June before I won't have anything to watch on it. Just need that little nudge to get started again.

Damn right. Bad luck doesn't exist. Life throws challenges your way and the only thing you can do is deal with them as best you can figure. And when things turn around, the rewards are that much sweeter.

MGM is a mad genius:

In honor of conservative bloggers, basement-dwelling sci-fi aficionados, and Dungeons & Dragons players everywhere, I bring you: The fabled Horn of Mom Summoning.

The Horn of Mom Summoning

When the user sounds this horn, it first emits a coughing bellow, like that of an enraged asthmatic. Following that, the horn's call changes to a strident, piercing "MAAAAAAAAM!" Within minutes of sounding the Horn, a Mom will appear (usually the user's own). There is a 10% chance that the summoned Mom will be bearing sandwiches and juice boxes, and a further 5% chance she will be carrying Cheetos.

The Horn can only be used once per day. Additional uses result in the summoned Mom being angry, frazzled, and vengeful. Furthermore, each additional use of the Horn requires the user to roll a saving throw versus death to avoid permanently losing one point of charisma.

Time to go head off to the salt mine. I spent nearly an hour on the phone with the IRS since I had not received my refund and it looks like when I did my turbotax it sent the wrong information out and according to what was sent I would owe the IRS $15,000 instead of getting a refund. Now I have to file an amended return which means I won't see my money back until sometime this summer.

My life seems to just continue to go downhill.

It's worse than you think - you'll probably get audited too.

Afternoon, folks!

Good news today....we got approved for our UI benefits, so we won't be moving out to the streets after all, we qualify for more in food stamps than I had been spending on groceries anyway, so we can fatten up...and AFLAC! has scheduled a round-2 interview with me for next week.

I've also got a ton of leads this week....nothing concrete, but good leads nonetheless.

And as for TriSec's crafting....you could probably guess without trying.

You know I've been spending too much time on Facebook when I start digging up old flames.

Like that one girl from high school who was in the one academic club you really took seriously and you never told her or anyone else anything.. and now you find out she's still single, and ten times more beautiful than she was then.

This could be trouble. This could mean a trip to New Haven.

Comment by livingonli on 02/28/2009 03:14:19
I'll probably check it out when I get home or before I leave tonight. Can't spend as much time on facebook at work.
