Good Morning.

Forty years ago yesterday.

An unobtrusive memorial in Boston commemorates the loss to this Commonwealth. Unobtrusive, but in a prominent location in a park between Quincy Market and the North End. Thousands of people walk by it every day.

To a human life, four decades is about half of it. There are places and things that have changed immeasurably in four decades. There are places and things that have not changed a bit over a similar time period.

What is happening in the Middle East is far beyond a single human lifespan. You can find references to conflict in the Bible, alluding to events of more than 2,000 years ago over the same places and names we find in the headlines today.

It will take more than arms and diplomats to make any sort of positive change. But what would make that change seems elusive to all mankind.

Good morning!!!

Change is hard but still possible. In the short term, I hold out little hope for peace. However, I have more hope in the long term. Some conflicts that seem endless or inevitable, such as the Troubles in Ireland or the Cold War, have ended.

"Long Term" is unfortunately eternal in this instance.

The Cold War never truly ended; except for a brief period of optimism 30 years ago now, we have reverted back to proxy wars, posturing, and brinkmanship with Vladimir Putin.

Not sure what is happening in Northern Ireland, but the State Department still considers it unsafe to travel there.

As we have all seen throughout the region - it is probably not anything to do with the people or even the land. This is all "In the Name of God", and until religion is removed from the equation, we are likely to see another 2,000 years of conflict over the same region.
