2022 was rather successful, and this year I had hoped to make enough to even take some real time off this winter and putter around Florida for more than a few days. Spring Training was rather high on my 'bucket list'.
But it's all come crashing down. I worked fewer days. I dispatched more days. (No tips.) and given the "dynamic pricing" on the tour now, we didn't even know how much it costs to ride the trolley any given day.
So much so that many of our online reviews referred to it as "price gouging" and a "scam".
I got the attendance bonus, but that money is already spent, and we're no better off than we were last week.
Eat. Sleep. Work. Repeat.
I am looking for more hours this winter, but a place I thought I had caught on with is now ghosting me, and I don't even have a confirmed start date yet, three weeks in. It's time to move on.
I might be raving these days, but not the way Moby intended.
oof - when I was unemployed for 8 months back in 2009, I had done about 5 phone interviews, and the last one was going to be in-person. After the in-person interview, they ghosted me, and I took the only other opportunity I had.
14 years later, and I am on my 3rd job since then and doing pretty well.
Sometimes what seems like a door being slammed in your face turns out to knock you through another door you didn't realize was your destiny all along.

Sometimes the right opportunity will present itself. I think I have learned that middle school does not work for me. So, I am checking different things. The key thing to remember is that a job does not define who you are. This seems like a contradiction in this country because many people will answer "What are you?" with their profession. However, we are people first, and only professions much later in any list.

Well, Will...the older I get, the more I am certain that I missed my calling in life. Sure, I drive a bus and entertain people, but if you ask me, I'm a Scout Leader and a teacher. For love of game; no pay for all us volunteers. It has actually been my "career" for 35 years, since I was 18. "I work so I can Scout" has been my mantra for decades.
