It is happening

I'm just going to start with a comment from yesterday's blog.

For duck's sake. I just heard.

Friendly reminder - I work at a school. I could be shot at any time.
I'm not going to lie - what Tri said was true. It's not because he works at a school, though.

It is a simple, sad, and scary truth that any of us could be shot at any time. Eventually, every one of us will be affected by gun violence, passively or directly. Kids who survived Parkland found themselves in the same situation in college. I was a witness to gun violence in my childhood home.

Schools, churches, nightclubs, concerts, offices, streets, parks, parades, road rage, parking lots. Elected officials and Judges. I can go on.

However, here is the thing: while we train kids with active shooter drills, this killer knew how to barricade doors. He barricaded them from the outside.

Listen to how this child responded when asked by a reporter what he witnessed.

"My friend Victor like saved me though, because he laid on top of me. But he got hit."

10-year-old describes witnessing Minneapolis shooting.

This ought to give us all pause. Slowly but surely, it is happening to all of us. Until people stop voting for Republicans, it won't end.

It shouldn't be up to American children to save each other from getting shot.

It's the job of American adults to stop shootings from happening in the first place.

Ban assault weapons again now.

Breaking News: After over 150 years, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution will stop publishing a print newspaper at the end of the year. The publication says the time is right to pour all of its resources into its online news operation and get its journalism “in front of the most people.”

Closer than you think. Two of my friends have been murdered by gun. (decades ago now.)
