Drip, Drip, Drip....
Author: Raine    Date: 04/23/2009 13:04:44

There has been a lot of hubbub in DC. First we got the release of a few torture memo's, and we were informed that people who followed the law at the time would not be held responsible. It's been a roller coaster. Everyone is upset. Rightfully so. Interestingly, what they are upset about seems to more of a debate than what is actually happening. Are they upset about torture, or are they upset that we didn't torture... it is boggling to the mind.

What I DO know, is that there are a lot of people who are very nervous. They should be. There are the usual cast of characters, Rumsfeld, Condi, Cheney, etc. I also believe that a few Dems are sweating it out too. The bottom line is that a damn has burst. People are coming forward, talking, and leaking information. These memos and information have confirmed that sadly, we were right. The letters, The blogs, the protests were not because we were some left wing loons. We were Right. Torture was done in our name... America's name.

Today we learned that Condi Green lighted Torture in 2002.
Members of the president’s Cabinet and other senior officials attended meetings in the White House where specific interrogation techniques were discussed. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who was then the National Security Adviser, said that, ‘in the spring of 2002, CIA sought policy approval from the National Security Council (NSC) to begin an interrogation program for high-level al-Qaida terrorists.’ Secretary Rice said that she asked Director of Central Intelligence George Tenet to brief NSC Principals on the program and asked the Attorney General John Ashcroft ‘personally to review and confirm the legal advice prepared by the Office of Legal Counsel.’ She also said that Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld participated in the NSC review of the CIA’s program.
Torture was done to try to make a connection between Iran and 9/11. We knew, and now the rest of the world knows. There will be more information, and there will be more things happening. I don't know for sure if we will see prosecutions, but I do know that Eric Holder is acting like a real Attorney general, as opposed to the previous Attorney General (who acted more like Bush's general counsel). He has said that laws will be followed. Before any laws can be enforced, everyone needs to discover exactly how many laws were broken.

So that begs the next question... if Congress has hearings, do they think they can stop prosecution? I ask because it seems like suddenly, out of the clear blue, NOW they want hearings. Now they are worried.. NOW-- AFTER the White House made it very clear that those who implemented torture, and were complicit it in it are still accountable. I do not believe that it was just the Bush Cabal that was complicit in allowing torture. This is not a partisan issue. This is about who we are as a Nation.

We need to let our Attorney General do his job --independent of politics. Anything less would be no better than what we got from the previous administration. What we are seeing now is a gathering of information, and the information is stunning. This is going to get far worse before it gets better -- but the truth is slowly coming out. Justice should not be rushed.

Drip.

Drip.

Drip.

:peace: and
Raine

About time...

Comment by livingonli on 04/23/2009 16:01:57
Good morning everyone.

It sucks that I didn't get to bed until 4 AM last night due to working late.

It also sucks that I am so cash strapped that I can't afford to make donations right now.

Comment by Mondobubba on 04/23/2009 16:02:45
There are some big wildfires in and near North Myrtle Beach, SC (Home of Vanna White). I wonder if Mark Sanford will decline FEMA money to cope with disaster.

Comment by wickedpam on 04/23/2009 16:05:05
Liv - you can always donate time in Puff's honor to a animal rescue or something animal related - heck you can even take someone's dog for a walk for them in Puff's honor.

Mondo - where o'where shall the white trash vacation this year if Myrtle Beach burns? There would be no more NASCAR Cafe!

Hey folks. Quite the interview today...I was there more than 2 hours.

Met with HR, Team Lead, and the Team, which they told me means I've already gone through the first two rounds.

One of the team members is a former athenista; it was more a reunion than anything else today.

Feeling fairly good about this one.

Good luck with that.

Time to go to the store, get some food and I have to refill my insulin so have fun until I get back.
