I used to say welcome to Gilded Age 2,0, with less interesting rich people but better toys. Now, I must say "Welcome to these New Dark Ages."
We have a president who flouts international law, invading countries on flimsy reasons. (The invasion of Venezuela recalls the invasion of Panama.) Meanwhile, I am not optimistic that the Democrats will do much.
I do not know the way forward. However, I know that we must find it. We need to have more courage and wisdom than we have needed in my lifetime.

The New Dark Ages apply only to the United States.
But would the rest of the world survive our aberrations?
One does not know what a mad dictator can do with unlimited power - except to remember that it corrupts absolutely.
Perhaps bits of America might survive; we haven't been a "United State" for a very long time.
