Yesterday, the liberal press lived up to its name and went after Cheney, Rove, Gonzales and the rest of the cabal for their rolls in torturing prisoners of war. Naturally, Democrat Nancy Pelosi got a free pass despite allegations that she had been briefed on their plans during secret classified meetings and didn't immediately go public with the classified information.

Oh wait - that's not what happened? The press didn't go after Cheney?... or Rove?... or Gonzales?... They went after Pelosi like piranhas in a bone-cleaning feeding frenzy? The "liberal media"?? Really?

Yes really. For the past couple of days, the press has been raking her over the coals, asking "what did she know and when did she know it?" as if it was HER responsibility to manage the White House's foreign policy. Never mind the guys that decided to use torture, or the guys that tortured the law itself to extract bogus legal rationale for it, or the sick puppies that implemented it. If the press went after them then they would be accused of being partisan liberal media. So instead, they go after the female Speaker of the House, because she's an easier target.

For Chrissakes, Rove practically admitted that they tortured, in print in a column in the Wall Street Journal. How bold is that? Meanwhile, Cheney is on Torture Tour 2009, telling everyone that can stomach it that "torture works". Maybe it's just me, but isn't saying that torture works pretty much admitting that yes, they tortured? On top of that, Cheney - the man who guarded the secrets of the Kingdom as closely as the Colonel guards the recipe of those 16 herbs and spices - is asking for classified documents to be released to prove it. Sadly for him, the rules they put in place to keep that from happening before are keeping it from happening now. Kharma's a bitch.

We have testimony in Congress from a former FBI interrogator that they were getting good info until the CIA showed up and started torturing the captives. We now have the former chief of staff to Colin Powell coming forward and describing how Cheney was pressing for torture to create a link between al-Qaeda and Iraq. So the truth shows how wrong Cheney really is, because torture didn't keep America safe, it got us embroiled in a war of Cheney's choosing. The victim agreed to false information to make the torture stop.

But hey - the CIA said they briefed Pelosi on it, so that's all that matters, right? They wouldn't lie to us would they? Not that bastion of honesty the CIA!...

Except - they apparently did. Bob Graham has shown that the CIA made up two dates where they claimed he'd been briefed (apparently, this isn't the first time that the CIA did this). So the fact that they are making claims about meetings that didn't happen, and information that didn't get disclosed kind of throws into question the whole rationale for the witch hunt swirling around Pelosi. As one would expect (and to some extent - hope), she is fighting back and claiming that the CIA misled her. Again feigned shock - the CIA misled her? The group that was front and center with the torturing? Why would they do that? :sarcasm:

This whole thing stinks of the projection, deflection, and misdirection we've been seeing the last eight years. Whenever some scandal hit the news in years past, it seems like there was always some other more important story that was getting ignored. Like the magician sneaking another ball out of his left pocket while the audience is watching the fancy finger work of the right, we've seen time and again how easily they dupe a complicit press to go after the sensational story, when the important one is right there waiting to be reported, ignored.

It seems too obvious this time, but like all things lately, they seem to have lost their touch. Pelosi is becoming the fall guy for the people that actually request, approved, and performed the torture. I just hope America wakes up and realizes they are being duped again.

Mornin' all & Happy bouncin-back Fridee! :boobs:

Personally I think it has much more to do with the ever-present corporate mindset that drives news for ratings and advertising dollars than any kind of political motive. The people working in the media are indeed by-and-large liberal by definition - the bottom line driving decisions tho clearly is only after the dirt and will go for it no matter who it might touch.

I agree that they are opportunistic and go for the sensational, but I also think they're still scared to go after the Republicans.

Anyone who knew about, ordered the use of, or covered up for torture should go to jail. Let's stop throwing around unproven blame and start some investigations.

If I recall correctly, in 2006, the Dems passed a law banning torture-- it was B*SH who vetoed it

Another question -- In 2002,03, 04, and 05 -- WHO Exactly was the speaker of the house?

Oh yeah -- DENNY HASTERT!

Oh yeah.. I'm curious about Rand Paul's announcement last night about running for Senate seat in 2010 - I didn't hear him say he would be running as a Republican, though it's probably implied.

Chris gets flustered as well when he's being attacked. Just sayin. . .

Someone being a Congress Critter does not make them immuned to get flustered.

It doesn't necessarily mean she's lying.

The fact is we are all just speculating until all of the evidence is released.

I tend to agree about that, I want more info released.

I think this will still happen -- it is-- sadly-- a slow process. I also agree with Chris regarding the fact that ever since she took impeachment off the table -- my trust level of her is not so much.

if she covered it up, then shhe should no longer be speaker of the house -- but I really feel that we are losing focus of the people who actually did this.

It also doesn't mean you are immune to breach of private contract. If you sign a contract, and then say or do something contrary of that contract, you can be held to account.

Can we PLEASE move on!????????

From what I understood, he asked the CIA to release them, the CIA saaid no because you need to file a FOI request, since the memos are currently involved in a court case.

Now let me get this in right (becuase I am a bit confused)

Dick and his merry band of tortures said that info needed to be kept secret for NAtional security reasons, NOW thinks he can just walk up to the CIA and make the previously SECRET memos public with a snap of his old white fingers?

I didn't sleep very well last night. Too much worry.

And I have seen for years how the corporate media has not been that liberal and has often followed the Republican line, they only look liberal compared to the open propaganda of Fox News.

I have been hearing rumblings that they may get leaked. -- Still looking for a confirmed source, but Australia may have a copy of them.

they actaully were the ones who leaked additional photos when the Abu Garaib pics came out.

Then there is this: Rumours (NOT confirmed -- ) some of those pics might be of Children.
