Why would I want single-payer health care? I don’t want to be single!

No you will not necessarily be single. Single payer is a term used to describe the payment of doctors, hospitals, and other health care providers from a single fund. According to the National Library of Medicine's Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) thesaurus, a single-payer system is:

An approach to health care financing with only one source of money for paying health care providers. The scope may be national, like the Canadian system, state-wide, or community-based. The payer may be a governmental unit or other entity such as an insurance company. The proposed advantages include administrative simplicity for patients and providers, and resulting significant savings in overhead costs.

Single-payer health care does not necessarily mean that the government or some government agency delivers or controls health care services; it could be similar to a public utility that provides electricity for example, to everyone.

Why is it a good thing that the 2010 Census will count Gay couples?

Well, for one thing, it reverses something George W. Bush did and that’s almost always a good thing!

Rea Carey, executive director of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, called the policy change a significant step. Carey’s group has been among those lobbying the White House:

The census, I like to say, is on its face about numbers. But what the census is really about is telling the story of our country. Many people, including people in the administration, are realizing just how important it is to make sure that (lesbian and gay) Americans are not rendered invisible.

An anonymous spokesperson from NOM had this to say:
We don’t really care what those, those, people say on their form as long as they stay away from our long proud institution of marriage which is between ONE man and ONE woman of good breeding stock…. sometimes more than one woman, especially if they are a celebrity.

What’s the deal with this woman who has to pay 1.9 Million for music downloads?

Insanity is the short answer.

Last Thursday, a federal judge jury fined a 32-year-old Minnesota woman $1.9 million for downloading 24 songs worth 99 cents a piece from the internet, illegally. She downloaded songs via Kazaa and made them available over the network. She claims she did not know she was making them available. In either case, it is certainly a bit of overkill to fine this working Mother to pay an insane amount of money to the RIAA, just so they can put out more really bad ads on the radio from old 80’s big haired frontmen.

Meanwhile, you can still get those illegal DVD's of the newest Transformer and Terminator movies right off the street.

Who is Jon and Kate and why are they getting a divorce?

I don’t really know who they are, but I wish they would D.I.V.O.R.C.E. ASAP and get off my TV and the front of magazines that I am forced to look at while in the long shopping lines to buy my Ben and Jerry’s pint. Sheesh!

Happy Fathers Day to all the Dads out there!

It's nice to know some people are having fun this morning.

I just wish these dreary, rainy days would come to an end.

I doubt we'll get single-payor with this medical bill. However, if we get a government-paid option, we may not need it. How many people will dump their private insurance if they can have a public option? I'm guessing... A LOT.

The insurance companies are fighting the public option because they know that eventually it will put them out of the medical insurance business. When that happens, we'll have single-payor.

Good afternoon, all!

Nice to be able to surf while having lunch, if it weren't for having to type with one finger.

My cats don't seem to understand the significance of the day. They were ignoring me just like any other day.

As long as we provide congresscritters with the best heathcare we can't afford, I don't see much happening. I'd like to be surprised, though.

Tip o' the hat to Lizz Winstead for posting that on the Facebooks. It is so a massive repost.
