Also known as the end of free speech in America. This must be stopped, NOW. We can't stop this war if we aren't allowed to think organize and speak out.

Mc-Car-thy-ism:
(mæ-kär'thç-ìz'æm) pronunciation n.
1. The practice of publicizing accusations of political disloyalty or subversion with insufficient regard to evidence.
2. The use of unfair investigatory or accusatory methods in order to suppress opposition.

It could be on it's way back friends. This is no fearmongering. A bill has passed in the house, by a vote of 405-6, called the Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act. It has been referred to the senate and you can read the bill here.
From the bill:
...ideologically based violence’ means the use, planned use, or threatened use of force or violence by a group or individual to promote the group or individual’s political, religious, or social beliefs...

That is the thought police there friends. ANYONE could be arrested under this law. Anything planned, that was viewed as threatening by the government. Anything suggested. it sounds like 1984 is coming true.

And the reality is this, it affects EVERYONE, not just people like you me and Cindy Sheehan, or your local favourite activist. It also affects people like Rush, and Beck and Dobson. Most people on the Right would like you to believe that it is just to protect us against islam... which, once again... very anti American...

According to the bill:
The Internet has aided in facilitating violent radicalization, ideologically based violence, and the homegrown terrorism process in the United States by providing access to broad and constant streams of terrorist-related propaganda to United States citizens.
What this actually means is that only by government intervention will these threats be stopped. It also suggests the concern that "We the People" might be overly influenced by what they are reading in the alternative press disseminated on the Internet.

Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Our nation, our people and our freedoms are in peril.
Take action now, or lose your freedoms forever
If you live in the U.S., it is urgent that you call your senators right now and voice your strong opposition against this extremely dangerous law.

Here are the phone numbers for the U.S. Senate switchboard:

1-877-851-6437
1-800-833-6354
1-888-355-3588
1-866-220-0044
1-866-808-0065
1-877-762-8762
1-866-340-9281
1-800-862-5530

How to do this:
1) Make sure you know the names of your Senators.
2) Call the U.S. Senate switchboard using one of the numbers above.
3) Ask to speak to the offices of your Senators.
4) Tell them you are strongly opposed to S. 1959, the Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act
5) Ask for their fax number.
6) Follow up your phone call with a written, signed letter that you fax to your Senators.

Stopping this bill from becoming law is the single most important thing all Americans can do right now. If this becomes law, all free speech about health freedom, the crimes of the FDA, the crimes of the Bush Administration, America's role in global warming and any other topics could all be criminalized. YOU could be labeled a terrorist, kidnapped by government thugs, taken from your home, thrown in a secret prison, denied access to legal representation, denied due process and essentially "disappeared" into a system of such corruption and evil that it now begins to blatantly mirror Nazi Germany.

Think it couldn't happen here? It's happening right now! This is exactly how it happened in Nazi Germany. First, burn the Reichstag and blame it on the "enemy." Pass new police state laws. Disarm the people. Spread fear. Erect secret prisons and secret police. Call anyone who disagrees with you a "traitor." Control the mainstream media. Sound familiar? This is all happening right now in the United States of Amerika, and if we don't work to stop it, this nation will rapidly devolve into a fascist police state where no one is truly free.
============================================

You can't fight anything if your thoughts become illegal. Come on inside and use them while you still can.

Liberal Confession : I do believe if you live and work in a country you should speak the language of that country, I don't care who you are and where you came from. It's a simple show of respect to the country where you are living and working.

Does that make me awful?

Ok, so I turn the page on my USAF Museum calendar, and I see the F-22 Raptor for this months. But one of the specs caught my eye...

Max speed Mach 2+

Cruise: 1128 kts

Range: 430 miles

Ceiling: FL 60

I didn't think the range total could be correct...since any decent WWII fighter would beat that by a long shot. Compare it to the 1950s vintage F-104 'Starfighter':

Max Speed: 1300 kts

Cruise: 550 kts

Range: 1,250 miles

Ceiling: FL 58

Except for flat-out speed and maneuverability, 50 years of aviation advances have done what, exactly? Or more to the point, what the hell are we paying Lockheed for, if they can't improve on the F-15 Eagle? (which are all grounded, BTW. You could look it up. )

No, WP. My great grandmother came here from Sicily in 1909; she did not speak any english.

Over time, our family lost the ability to speak Italian; as Angelina said, "We in America now, you speak-a the english".

Same with my grandparents. it was verbotten to speak the mother tongue. I see nothing wrong with asking people to speak english. I think however it is wrong to assume (not that you do Mala... or any of us here) that when you hear someone speaking another language that they are not trying to learn English, or that they do not know it.

Tri - same story with my dad's grandparents who came from Germany. Although they maintained German as a second language which served my gradfather well during WWII where he was a translator or something like that oversees.

It does just go for people coming here, I think if someone goes to Russia or Japan or anywhere to live and work should atleast attempt to speak the langage. I think people all over the world can understand the concept of trying to communicate.
