Disgust
Author: BobR    Date: 11/06/2009 12:45:06

At some point, you'd think I'd get sick and tired of getting sick and tired. Perhaps I am. Maybe the news media is only reporting stuff to outrage its viewers, but after a week of cramming new info into my head for my new job, I have little patience for this nonsense.

The big story from yesterday was the soldier shrink who went nuts and killed 12 of his fellow soldiers and wounded another 31. It was bad enough that they kept breathlessly feeding us unconfirmed reports that constantly changed, but how relevant was it really that the shooter had a "Muslim-sounding name"?? You expect this sort of thing from FAUX News, but even "bastion of liberal reporting" MSNBC reported it too. How relevant can that possibly be? It's simply inflammatory (to the nimrods in the audience) for the sake of being inflammatory. Disgusting...

The other story yesterday that wanted to be big was the teabaggers once again converging on DC to protest the current healthcare bill. It's bad enough that they are being sponsored by the aforementioned FAUX News, but apparently numerous members of Congress are co-mingling with the sheep to protest... their own House? So we have members of Congress trying to give credibility to a movement being run by a "news" channel... Isn't that dangerously close to fascism? Disgusting...

Not only did the Congress-critters participate, they made complete asses of themselves to boot. Todd Akin (R-MO) botched the Pledge of Allegiance (after giving a speech about its importance), John Boehner (R-OH) confused the Constitution with the Declaration of Independence, and Michelle Bachmann (R-Pluto) ... well - her lips moved, 'nuff said. Right-wing radio douche Mark Levin also disrespectfully knocked the flag on the ground in a flagrant display of clumsy incompetence, but you sort of expect that from those Gomers. Disgusting...

While all this was going on, Chris Dodd (D-CT), penned a letter to HHS Secretary Kathleen Sibelius demanding to know why Wall St. firms were given doses of the H1N1 flu vaccine. Quite frankly, I'd like to know why too, and I'd like to know if it was her doing or not. Most people don't realize that it normally takes a year to create enough flu vaccine for the entire country, so complaints that there isn't enough to go around are unfounded. However, when it's handed over to companies to distribute to employees as they see fit, rather than going to those most in need, then something is seriously wrong. Disgusting...

After all this disgust, it was nice to see one bright spot in the news, however: Fannie Mae is going to offer borrowers a rent option instead of foreclosure. This means that families will be able to stay in their houses, even though they will still technically be losing them. Nonetheless, it keeps the houses occupied, which is good for neighborhoods, and good for the families that would otherwise be homeless. It's also better for the families' credit.

Have a great weekend, ya bastahds, and try not to be disgusted.

Hey hey hey! Gooood mornin' and happy Fridee bloggeristas!

AWESOME rant today Bobber! I was listening to the ever-popular sports talk station in Boston on the way home when I first heard about the shootings.. One of the guest hosts stupidly parroted the line about it being a "cowardly terrorist attack".

I find it amazing that Boner has been bitching about not being able to read the bill-- and yet he doesn't even know how to read the constitution.

Levin just said was a total lie. Not even nuanced lies.

"limited" Constitution government? I think the point was to use the whole Constitution for the government

Speaking of rants, Brother Mondo and I got into a rant last evening about the idiot reporting on the Ft Hood incident. He called me some woman on CNN speculating why an Army doctor would have a sidearm. Umm because he's in the ARMY! This stuff about non-combatants not being armed is not true. They are not fighting, yes, but that doesn't mean they aren't going to be carrying weapons. At a minimum an Army physician is going to have a sidearm (See "Baghdad Emergency Room); a Navy corpsman serving with a Marine unit is going to be armed to the teeth (See Generation Kill book or mini-series) as will be a medic in the Army (A Friend of mine's two sons, both medics in the Army).

Oh good morning all. For the first time in about a week I am not hacking up viscous, phlegmy gobs of goo. :metal:

Mondo -- this is interesting:

Cone said he did not believe that the weapons involved in the attack -- one of them a semiautomatic -- were military-issued.

The rules for carrying weapons on an Army post are standard throughout all bases, service officials said. The only personnel allowed to openly display weapons on the base are military police, said Lt. Col. Nathan Banks, an Army spokesman.

Service weapons are checked daily and are usually only allowed to be removed from an arms room for training on a range or maintenance. Personal weapons must be kept locked and registered with the base provost marshal. The military police keep a record of all of the weapons on a base, Army officials said.

At what point are we going to take a good hard look at what is happening in our country and compare it to the leadup to Rwanda?

I am quite serious about this. I hope that our constitution protects us from it. There is an uprising happening right now.

Oh, yeah I know. What my brother and I were ranting about was the notion that "non-combatant" means unarmed/not trained to use rifles and or pistols. The Army is a gun culture there is no way around that.

Something else that my brother and I were talking about was he using his issued sidearm or a personal one. We both agreed that since it is against regulations to carry a weapon on a base unless you are doing an authorized live fire exercise, that the guns used were from private stock.

that and the whole theo discussion just kinda pisses me off - religion is a personal thing and unless it stirs violence and hate its worthless to argue someone's faith with them

Speaking of postal, I just emailed the SVP of Consumer Banking at Citizens Bank (after having to guess his email address using the media contacts as a template and pulling his name from the executive list) and bitched him out because I got whacked with a $200 overdraft fee.
