It's the Antichrist! It's the Antichrist!
Author: TriSec    Date: 04/24/2010 12:43:00

Bob Dole is the AntiChrist!

I recall declaring that sometime during the 1992 presidential election campaign. Of course, in time I was proven wrong and he's since faded into old-man obscurity..except for that flaccid penis thing.

Julia Roberts is the Antichrist!

A movie actress? Really? Well....I really can't stand her or her films, and for a time it seemed that everywhere I looked, there she was. Seemed like a natural extension for a while.

You can say all you want about George Bush, but in the big picture...he's a nobody. For my money, the Antichrist was probably Adolf Hitler.

But what is the AntiChrist, exactly? Not surprisingly, it seems to be a construct of man. While the ancient religious texts are rife with references, none seem to come from Jesus. It's John and Paul that did most of the writing about it. And interestingly enough, most of the major religions have a similar character in their text. [All references from the wikipedia.]

The Antichrist, according to Christianity, is one who fulfills Biblical prophecies concerning an adversary of Christ while resembling him in a deceptive manner. The antichrist will seemingly provide for the needs of the people but deny the ultimate salvation. "Antichrist" is the English translation of the original Koine Greek ἀντίχριστος, pronounced än-tē'-khrē-stos. It is made up of two root words, αντί + Χριστός (anti + Christos). "Αντί" can mean not only “against” and “opposite of”, but also “in place of", "Χριστός", translated "Christ", is Greek for the Hebrew "Messiah" meaning "anointed," and refers to Jesus of Nazareth within Christian theology. The term "antichrist" appears 5 times in 1 John and 2 John of the New Testament — once in plural form and four times in the singular.

Many Protestant reformers, including Martin Luther, John Calvin, Thomas Cranmer, John Knox, and Cotton Mather, identified the Roman Papacy as the Antichrist.[citation needed] The Centuriators of Magdeburg, a group of Lutheran scholars in Magdeburg headed by Matthias Flacius, wrote the 12-volume "Magdeburg Centuries" to discredit the papacy and identify the pope as the Antichrist. The fifth round of talks in the Lutheran-Roman Catholic dialogue notes,

In calling the pope the "antichrist," the early Lutherans stood in a tradition that reached back into the eleventh century. Not only dissidents and heretics but even saints had called the bishop of Rome the "antichrist" when they wished to castigate his abuse of power.

After the reforms of Patriarch Nikon to the Russian Orthodox Church of 1652, a large number of Old Believers held that czar Peter the Great was the Antichrist because of his treatment of the Orthodox Church, namely subordinating the church to the state, requiring clergymen to conform to the standards of all Russian civilians (shaved beards, being fluent in French), and requiring them to pay state taxes.

In Mormonism, the term anti-Christ refers to those who deny the divinity of Jesus Christ, deny the Gospel, and oppose his faith. Mormons generally identify three characters in the Book of Mormon as anti-Christs. They are Sherem, Nehor, and Korihor, though only Korihor is explicitly called an anti-Christ. Sherem accepted Law of Moses but denied that there was or ever would be a Christ. Nehor was a priest who demanded payment, taught universal reconciliation, and believed that repentance was unnecessary. Korihor was an atheist.

Masih ad-Dajjal (Arabic: الدّجّال‎, literally "The Impostor"), is an evil figure in Islamic eschatology. He is to appear pretending to be the true messiah at a time in the future, before Yawm al-Qiyamah (The Day of Resurrection, Judgment Day). It is also believed by Muslims that Jesus will return at the time of the Dajjal and he will be the one to eventually defeat him.

President Obama is the Antichrist!

Huh?

In a recent poll taken by Harris Interactive, about one quarter of the self-identified Republican respondents thought the President might be the Antichrist.

The survey showed that 24 per cent of Republican respondents agreed with the statement that the president might be the Antichrist, and 38 per cent thought he was "doing many of the things Hitler did."

According to the poll 67 per cent of Republicans thought President Obama was a socialist, 57 per cent thought that he was secretly a Muslim, 42 per cent believed he was "racist," and 61 per cent thought that he wants to abolish gun ownership.

It also found that 51 per cent of Republicans thought that he wants to turn over the US to a single world government, and 22 per cent believed "he wants the terrorists to win."

The poll was carried out by Harris Interactive in an online survey of 2,320 adults.

Overall, including Democrat respondents, it found that 40 per cent thought President Obama was a socialist, 32 per cent that he was a Muslim, and 25 per cent that he was not born in the United States.

The poll was carried out to measure extreme views following the publication of Wingnuts: How the Lunatic Fringe is Hijacking America, a book by John Avlon.

Respondents were asked to say whether they believed various extreme statements about President Obama were true or false.

Mr Avlon said: "These new numbers are shocking but not surprising. This poll should be a wake-up call to all Americans about the real costs of using fear and hate to pump up hyper-partisanship."

You can Google "Obama is the Antichrist" and ruin the rest of your weekend if you like. But much like Momma, I surf the right wing internets so you don't have to.

Imagine my surprise that in reading the first two websites I found, they consist of nothing more than a message board that says "Is Obama the Antichrist?" and then it's full of increasingly bizarre and desparate posts.

"Is you afraid of a black man as President?" might be the more appropriate queston.
