When Christians Kill
Author: TriSec    Date: 02/15/2014 12:05:37

Good Morning.

No, I'm not planning on killing the weatherman, despite what he's telling me about later today. Besides, I'm not really Christian anymore anyway.

Actually, we're heading out to Nashoba Valley with the Cub Scouts this morning to play in the snow, but I digress.

I've mentioned it here before, but nevertheless you may still be surprised to learn that among the many things that I listen to and follow online is this fine couple. It's a very homespun brand of Christianity they preach; I love their podcast because it feels like we're sitting around their dining room table having a conversation instead of a minister "preaching" at us.

I've traded a number of messages with him, and of course he was shocked to discover that I follow a different prophet than he. I think he found it dismaying that I insist that no faith has a monopoly on the path to grace, but of course as an evangelical he has to disagree with that. I really can't fault him for that; all the major religions state that theirs is the only way, and everyone else is a non-believer whose abode shall be the fire.

Every now and again, politics creep into the aforementioned podcast. I usually just skip listening that day, but he goes out of his way to denounce and denigrate Islam and Muslims in general. I've long thought about debunking a lot of his points, but I've taken a page out of his own book and decided to "Turn the other cheek". (Luke 6:29)

But I do want to mention a story today that you probably haven't heard about. In a place called the Central African Republic, there is a typical religious/civil war going on. It's got the usual persecution, murder, mayhem, and horrific massacres that go hand-in-hand with ethnic conflict.

Except this time it's the Christians doing the killing.

Christian militia taking revenge on the Central African Republic's Muslim population could drive the entire Islamic group out of the country, a human rights group claimed earlier this week.

The anti-balaka ("anti-machete") has increasingly fought back against the country's minority Muslim population since the Muslim Seleka rebel group antagonized the country's Christians.

Human Rights Watch employees in the Central African Republic have claimed to have witnessed anti-balaka forces cutting "the throats of Muslim civilians, publicly lynching, mutilating, and setting their bodies on fire." It also reported attacks where the groups had cut off body parts or hacked Muslims to death.

It pointed to Yaloké, which prior to the arrival of anti-balaka forces boasted an estimated Muslim population of 30,000 and eight mosques. Now, it is reported that the town has only one mosque and 500 Muslims. Many Muslim homes in the area were also looted by members of the Christian militia.

The report also listed four other former "Muslim strongholds" that were now totally devoid of residents and whose shops and business have been looted by anti-balaka forces.

Peter Bouckaert, Emergencies director at HRW, said there is a good chance that such terrors will drive out a Muslim population which has lived for hundreds of years in the region.

"At this rate, if the targeted violence continues, there will be no Muslims left in much of the Central African Republic. People whose families have peacefully lived in the country for centuries are being forced to leave, or are fleeing the very real threat of violence against them," he said in a statement.

We've seen this story time and time again in recent years, except the roles are always reversed. When the Muslims are the persecuted....dead silence. It's unfortunate but not unexpected. After all, they ain't 'murricans, right?
