More Paranoid Conspiracy Theory Nonsense
Author: BobR    Date: 07/15/2020 13:17:27

A while back, I wrote a blog about paranoid conspiracy theories. What's amazing is how insane they've gotten, to the point where old debunked theories have been given new life. One has to wonder - is this what happens to people when they've been cooped up for too long?

The latest one is a doozy. Apparently, there are some who believe that home product retailer Wayfair is engaged in child sex trafficking. It seems absurd, and it is, but who are you going to believe? The "fake" news media, or some rando on the internet providing information that they don't want you to see? In the Wayfair case, they have two different prices for what appear to be the same products. Per Wayfair, the higher priced items are commercial-grade. Per the insane people, they are a "cover" for buying children. The "same" products have different names, and someone has been able to match the names of the higher priced items to the names of missing children. Rather than pollute the interet with even more photos and links to garbage sites, here's the article in Newsweek about the story.

People pushing this nonsense are trying to tie it to "PizzaGate", as if 1) it makes the Wayfair case more credible, 2) it makes the PizzaGate fiction more credible (it absolutely doesn't). Refresher: PizzaGate is the laughable concoction that Hillary Clinton was running a child sex ring out of the basement of the Comet Ping Pong pizza shop in DC. Besides being absurd on its face, the shop doesn't have a basement, and a person who showed up to "rescue the children" and shot up the place is doing 4 years for it.

To add more sinister color to the story, it turns out that George Soros (*gasp*) is invested in Wayfair. Funny thing though - George Soros is invested in everything.

It's not just online retailers - people are convinced that wearing masks is a plot, that 5G (a data compression and transmission protocol for cellphones) is a plot, that stores not making change due to a shortage of it is a plot (for a - *gasp* - cashless society!), that a coronavirus vaccine is just a plot to force a "chip" inside you to track you... No matter what it is, it's something THEY want - to control you, to spy on you, to corral you like sheep.

I suppose I can't blame idle hands due to the coronavirus shutdown, since this mindset (or - more accurately - mindless-set) pre-existed it, but I have to wonder if the frustration and lack of diversion has exacerbated this. It's a shame that this creativity isn't being used for something to better society.
