Picked-Up pieces of Trisec's Mind

'Good Morning.

Once again, random tidbidts - a concept I shamelessly steal from Bob Ryan of the Boston Globe....from time to time.

Sure feels like the right choice these days, moving to second shift. I've had four good days of driving my new route. Best week of work since the "before time". Speaking of which, did you see Canada cancelled the cruise season this year? No ships allowed in Canadian waters until 2022 at the earliest. Even if there was tourism in Boston this year, there won't be any money to be made off it.

I've already got some interesting people on my new routes. The most intriguing is a combat veteran. She lost both her legs and gets around just fine on her chair. But she was telling me she's involved in a prosthetic study at MIT. They've apparently developed some kind of Bluetooth technology that can actually read and transmit her brain waves and the prosthesis will react like an actual leg. She says she's testing about six different sets right now - some work better than others. How cool is that?

But another guy out there - we're still hurting. He worked at a bar. A pretty neat one, something called the "Muse Paint Bar". It's exactly what it sounds like. People could gather, paint, have art classes, and because the place has a liquor license, they could enjoy an adult beverage while doing so. But they're classified as a bar. He told me he's been out of work almost a full year. Then he got caught up in the unemployment fraud fiasco somehow - hasn't gotten a check in ten weeks now. But you can't tell the GOP that. They don't give a fuck.

I was reading this morning about the Bank of America - sounds like some fascists are upset that the bank shared their information with Uncle Sam. Sounds legit; the bank looked for patterns and anyone that was "suspicious" and withdrew money near Washington DC during the timeframe was turned in. I suppose a warrant would have helped - but my takeaway is, "sucks to be you. Maybe you shouldn't have tried to overthrow the government?"

Speaking of government - I've been wondering if we actually do have a President these days? The silence out of the White House is deafening, and by deafening, I mean welcome relief indeed. Oh, don't get me wrong - there's plenty of work being done. But without histrionic tweets every hour, how can we be sure there's somebody there?

I for one, am glad that Mr. Biden took my advice from a column I wrote a few weekends ago. Isn't it nice that a significant portion of his administration is from the highly-educated megalopolis region? It is indeed going to take the "best and the brightest" to rebuild all the damage done. It would be great to be that shining city on a hill again - but that hill was clear-cut, then levelled to build a parking lot. We need the hill back first.

Ah, but new Labor Secretary Walsh leaves a mess behind. His police commissioner, Willie Gross, abruptly resigned, and then Mayor Walsh named a replacement. Turns out the replacement had some...issues. Threatened to shoot his wife with his service revolver back around '99 or so. While the replacement was done in a rush, how does something like this get through? It will be an interesting race for Boston Mayor - so far, there are actually NO WHITE IRISH-AMERICAN MALES RUNNING. Times, they are a-changing.

It is nice now, working with a President Biden. Did you know we now have a federal mask mandate for all transit? There is still no force of law behind it, but it just got a whole lot easier to throw people off my bus for non-compliance. My 86-year-old father is still waiting for an appropriate vaccine appointment at ol' Beth Israel in this city. As a transit worker, I myself still await my turn. (It's likely we'll have an organized event at work sometime soon.)

As our hourly announcement over the radio says - "Attention all drivers and passengers. While on our vehicles, you are required to wear a mask covering your nose and moth. If you have any issues with this policy - GO THE FUCK HOME. YOU CLEARLY CANNOT BE OUTSIDE UNSUPERVISED."

Stay safe out there.
