Good Morning.
I'm off to do something I haven't done in a number of years now. Canvassing a neighborhood!
The brother of my oldest friend in this city is
finishing his first term as our Ward Councilor. Given that I happen to live in the largest apartment complex here in Waltham, it is a rather large resource for votes. We'll be out in an hour or so walking the streets, knocking on doors and "getting his face out there". (It is an election year in this city.)
But we'll see how that goes. This neighborhood is 180 degrees opposed from what it was when we moved here.
I regret that over my attempts at public office, I've learned that most of the residents here are indifferent transients simply not interested in the neighborhood or this city. We've also got a large immigrant community now - nothing wrong with that, mind you - but my experience with that tells me that most of them won't be registered to vote in the first place.
But none of that matters - I'm also the last President of the Gardencrest Tenant's Association (defunct). I've kept the spirit alive, and in fact have just posted a rather lengthy missive with photos to our aforementioned Ward Councilor. There is a vast difference between local ownership and an absentee corporation slumlord, as I can tell you firsthand.
In any case - I'll see some friends, walk around this morning, and maybe, just maybe, get a handful of residents interested.
