Cleanup on Aisle One!

President Biden was sworn into office on Jan 20, 2021. That was just 7 months ago. He inherited a mess, and that's putting it mildly. The previous four years with TFG were a non-stop firehose of ineptness, malfeasance, and outright treachery. In the first week or two, Biden blasted through a bunch of Executive Orders, undoing much of what the Orange Menace put into place (also through Executive Orders). Some things, however, required more.

One of the things President Biden did was to revoke a ruling that asylum seekers must wait in Mexico while their cases slogged through the court system. It was inhumane and an obvious bone tossed to the cultists. Biden's action was undone yesterday by the SCOTUS:
The Supreme Court on Tuesday said the Biden administration must comply with a lower court’s ruling to reinstate President Donald Trump’s policy that required many asylum seekers to wait outside the United States for their cases to be decided.

The administration had asked the court to put on hold a federal judge’s order that the “Remain in Mexico” policy known as Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) had to be immediately reimplemented. U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk ruled earlier this month that the Biden administration did not provide an adequate reason for getting rid of the policy and that its procedures regarding asylum seekers who enter the country were unlawful.

[...]

The action could be an ominous sign for the new administration. The court is considering a request that it dissolve the pandemic-related evictions moratorium implemented by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about which the court’s most conservative justices have already expressed skepticism.

That is not encouraging, especially considering how TFG was signing Executive Orders like they were orders to McDonalds.

So along with also those policy changes, there were (and still are) some major problems. There was initially the very act of getting his election certified and being sworn in. Biden was denied the huge inauguration crowds he certainly would have gotten because of the insurrection/riot 2 weeks prior, as well as the COVID pandemic.

Obviously, the COVID-19 pandemic was in full flame, and that required a major effort to get the vaccine into as many arms as possible - on day one, especially since the current Mar-a-Lardo resident was simultaneously taking credit for the vaccine while claiming it wasn't necessary. By May, he had easily surpassed the goal for the number of shots delivered. That rate of vaccination has slowed way down as the effort bumps up against the stupid, gullible, misled, and downright ornery people who refuse, despite this 4th wave caused by the Delta Variant. It's getting to where half of the population of some red state towns are infected.

The other timebomb left by the Fat Sleazeball was the "deal" he struck with the Taliban for withdrawal from Afghanistan. For all his bloviating about his "art of the deal", is the reality that the deal was completely one-sided in favor of the Taliban, and the date for getting out completely is fast approaching.

Biden had promised he'd end the war in Afghanistan. I am sure he would have liked to do it on his own terms, but that was not an option for him because - once again - the whole situation was turned into a shit-show by the Petty Tyrant. So once again, he's doing his best to clean up yet another mess. That no one has died in the evacuation process is testament to his leadership (as well as the many people on the ground working around-the-clock to make this happen).

It will be nice when President Biden can finally put away his mop, and focus on the road ahead.
