We are forced to deal with and accept requirements all the time. You need to have a driver's license to legally drive a car, for example. You can still drive the vehicle, but if you are caught, there will be consequences. Most states require vehicle insurance as well as a license to drive the car. That's a fairly normal prerequisite to taking the car off the sales lot. You don't have to pay to upkeep the insurance, but again, if you get caught there are consequences.

If you take a loan out, you are required to pay it back. if you don't, it will be repossessed.

Wanna travel abroad, you're required to get a passport. Don't want one? Travel inside the country.

Shirts and shoes are normally required when eating at a restaurant, if a business requires it, you don't get service unless you meet the requirement.

Some businesses require you to be drug tested before and during employment. You can still smoke pot or do whatever, but those actions may have consequences.

We are required to do a lot of things in this nation. There are lots of reasons for them: the health of individuals and the general public, public safety, national security, and the list goes on. Mostly though, requirements are put in place to help make us a more cohesive society where the common good is a standard that we should all try to achieve. Sometimes things work and sometimes requirements need to be adjusted.

Earlier this month, the Biden Administration announced details of two big vaccination policies.
First, the Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is announcing the details of a requirement for employers with 100 or more employees to ensure each of their workers is fully vaccinated or tests for COVID-19 on at least a weekly basis. The OSHA rule will also require that these employers provide paid-time for employees to get vaccinated, and ensure all unvaccinated workers wear a face mask in the workplace.

(snip)

Second, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) at the Department of Health and Human Services is announcing the details of its requirement that health care workers at facilities participating in Medicare and Medicaid are fully vaccinated. The rule applies to more than 17 million workers at approximately 76,000 health care facilities, including hospitals and long-term care facilities.

You know what's not in this directive? It's a noun. It's the word mandate. There is a whole slew of people in the media and elsewhere claiming that they are being forced to follow vaccine "mandates". They are not being truthful. No one is being forced to take a vaccine. If they choose not to then the reality is that there will be consequences in the form of a financial penalty or something else. The right often claims that that "something else" is "cancel culture". It's not.

It's being held accountable for the poor decisions that were made.
