Good Morning.

We're going to head right overseas and start today in Ukraine.

Methinks this doesn't bode well.

Afghan commandos that were trained by the United States are being recruited to fight for Russia in Ukraine, according to a report from Foreign Policy.

Members of Afghanistan's elite National Army Commando Corps were left behind by the United States when the Taliban took control of the country in August 2021.

Now, commandos say they are being contacted on WhatsApp and Signal with offers to fight for Russia, according to the outlet.

The messages, seen by Foreign Policy, say: "Anyone who would like to go to Russia with better treatment and good resources: please send me your name, father's name, and your military rank."

Military and security officials in Afghanistan told the outlet that they fear up to 10,000 commandos could be tempted by such an offer, as many of them were left jobless and fearful for their life as they became targets for the Taliban.

"They have no country, no jobs, no future. They have nothing to lose," one military source told the outlet.

One former Afghan commando officer told Foreign Policy that he believed the shadowy Wagner Group was behind the recruitment drive.

"I am telling you [the recruiters] are Wagner Group. They are gathering people from all over. The only entity that recruits foreign troops [for Russia] are Wagner Group, not their army. It's not an assumption; it's a known fact," he said.

I don't know what it is about Afghanistan. Empires have gone there to die for centuries. Remember, we made Osama bin Laden ourselves - remember the old "Mujahadeen" that we trained to fight the Soviet invaders? Looks like maybe Russia is trying the same thing. Who knows what the results will be?

But it does seem that slowly but surely, we are being drawn deeper into the conflict. There are reports that the US Military is already in Ukraine, doing some sort of "weapons inspection". All it will take is one wrong move, and Russian and US Troops will be shooting at each other. What will happen after that?

WASHINGTON — A small number of U.S. military forces inside Ukraine have recently begun doing onsite inspections to ensure that Ukrainian troops are properly accounting for the Western-provided weapons they receive, a senior U.S. defense official told Pentagon reporters Monday.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to provide a military update, would not say where the inspections are taking place or how close to the battlefronts the U.S. troops are getting. The official said U.S. personnel can’t do inspections “close to the front lines,” but said they are going where security conditions allow.

The official said there have been several inspections, and they are being done by the U.S. Defense attache and the U.S. Office of Defense Cooperation team that is in Kyiv. So far, the official said, Ukrainian officials have been transparent about the weapons’ distribution and are supporting the inspections.

It was recently the 60th anniversary of the Cuban Missile Crisis. It seems to me like we are once again tickling the dragon's tail.
