Good Morning.

The battle continues around these United States over what Israel is doing to the 51st state.

Yes, it's a controversial opinion, but I remain steadfast - Gaza is not the 51st state, and we all would do well to try to remember that. All the campus and city protests, shutting down of roads, and whatever other disruptions that have been going on, especially in college towns far from any influential persons that have a say in US foreign policy strike me as particularly hollow effort.

Nevertheless, our relationship with Israel and that particular region remains utterly complex and indecipherable. Of course, we are trying to do the right thing with humanitarian aid to persons disrupted by the war.

As U.S. soldiers and sailors begin construction of the pier that the Biden administration hopes will provide a critical lifeline of aid to war-torn Gaza, military leaders are trying to assure critics that American troops will be well-defended from attack and aid groups that that same protection won't endanger them and their work.

In a briefing Thursday, a senior military official said that "at-sea assembly" of parts of the pier began earlier that day, with military planners anticipating the structure will be ready to start bringing in humanitarian aid in early May.

But curiously, at the same time we are working to provide succor and comfort to distressed persons, we are aiding and assisting those that are actively working to cause them harm. You probably remember this from a little less than a week ago.

Washington, DC – US President Joe Biden has signed into law a $94bn foreign funding bill that includes military aid to Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan, ending a months-long legislative impasse in Washington over the assistance.

Biden hailed the passage of the law on Wednesday as a “good day for world peace”, saying that the measure makes the United States safer.

The package will provide Israel with $17bn in additional aid despite growing calls for restricting US assistance to the country over abuses in Gaza, where the Israeli military has killed more than 34,000 Palestinians.

However, the US president framed the new assistance as an effort to help Israel protect itself from attacks against Iran.

“My commitment to Israel – I want to make clear again – is ironclad,” Biden told reporters. “The security of Israel is critical.”

So what side are we on?

Only America could do this. The hell of it is, I'm not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing.
