Sunday, my Mother-in-Law turned 91. We did the obligatory dinner, and during the evening, there was a brief conversation with Mrs. Trisec’s cousin.

She is a lay minister with the Roman Catholic church where Mrs. TriSec and I were married long ago. My Cub Scouts as well as the Scout Troop met there for somewhere around three years.

At the end of last season, we were abruptly kicked out without warning or explanation. We all suspected that it had something to do with the Catholic Church’s “Youth Protection” requirements, where of course they are the last players to the party in that regard.

In any case – I found out last night that it was because of “security”. All outside groups were expelled. Both ScoutsBSA and the Girl Scouts meeting there. An elderly neighborhood group can be there no more. Even the youth basketball team – they can still use the gym, but somebody needs to guard the door at all times.

Our cousin went on to note that the school now has a police detail during arrival and departure times, and I commented that that is sure to frighten and intimidate the children.

“No, they love the police officer, and he’s a great guy”.

“Well, that’s because you’ve trained them all to accept a fascist police state as the norm. Guns come before children in this country, after all.”

Yeah, the evening rapidly cratered after that exchange.

But isn’t the entire concept what is wrong with America right now? Schoolkids “love” their police protection – because they have been indoctrinated and trained to do so. But as I have opined before, if you have any kind of trouble at all, who shows up to “solve” said problem?
