By now you're all well aware of the fascist takeover of DC by Der Gropenfuhrer. This was supposedly precipitated by the attack on a former DOGE stooge who went by the code name "Big Balls". Apparently, they weren't big enough to prevent the beat-down he got; perhaps he wasn't aware that it's "Punch a Nazi" day every day in DC.
For those of us in the DC contingent, this is personal. This is where I work. This is our backyard playground. This is where violent crime is way down, per the Orange Bastard's own DOJ report.
This is also just the beginning:
Trump also suggested that cities far beyond Washington’s region could experience the same fate.
“We have other cities also that are bad. Very bad. You look at Chicago, how bad it is. You look at Los Angeles, how bad it is. We have other cities that are very bad. New York has a problem. And then, of course, you have Baltimore and Oakland. You don’t even mention them anymore, they’re so far gone,” Trump said, before promising that Washington would be cleaned up “very quick.”
Later, when asked explicitly if other cities were next on his list, Trump said, “We’re just going to see what happens. We’re going to have tremendous success with what we’re doing.
“Other cities are hopefully watching this … and maybe they’ll self-clean up and maybe they’ll self-do this and get rid of the cashless bail thing and all the things that caused the problem,” he continued.
“We’re going to look at New York in a little while. Let’s do this together.”
Can he legally do this? (
not that it matters to him, Congress, SCOTUS, or his most ardent cultists...) For other cities,
the answer should be no:
In 1973, Congress passed the Home Rule Act, which allowed D.C. residents to elect their own mayor and council members. But the law doesn’t give D.C. complete autonomy. Even now Congress controls its budget. Congress also has the power to review and block local legislation.
The president, meanwhile, still appoints D.C.’s judges — and he still leads its National Guard. He can also take control of the District’s police force by invoking Section 740 of the Home Rule Act, which is precisely what he did Monday.
But Trump doesn’t have the same powers across the rest of the country. Under current law, governors are in charge of each state’s National Guard and the police are largely controlled locally.
That article goes on to note that CA's Newsome is still fighting a legal battle against the Rancid Sack of Pus over the Nat Guard incursion into LA.
Just like Nazis that this administration is modeling itself after,
he's going after the Arts too:
The White House will launch a sweeping review of Smithsonian exhibitions, collections and operations ahead of America’s 250th-birthday celebrations next year — the first time the Trump administration has detailed steps to scrutinize the institution, which officials say should reflect the president’s call to restore “truth and sanity” to American history.
The vetting process would include reviewing public-facing and online content, curatorial processes and guidelines, exhibition planning and collection use, according to a letter sent to Smithsonian Secretary Lonnie G. Bunch III
[...]
To begin the process, officials requested that the museums provide information within 30 days concerning 250th-anniversary programming, current and future exhibition content, and other material.
The White House added that museums were expected to start making changes within 120 days.
“Museums should begin implementing content corrections where necessary, replacing divisive or ideologically driven language with unifying, historically accurate, and constructive descriptions across placards, wall didactics, digital displays, and other public-facing materials,” the letter read.
This is after taking over the Kennedy Center, and the Smithsonian "accidentally" removing his two impeachments from an exhibit about impeachments.
This used to be maddening; it is now scary and dangerous. It seems like we're all on a runaway train heading for a cliff.
