Having a tough weekend

Thoughts and things swirling around my head about what to write today.

I had thought first about being hopeful; I had an idea to write a blog about lesbians.

Now, now. Not like that. Remember back about 21 years ago now, when my fine Commonwealth was the first to legalize same-sex marriage?

Well, I'm sure you remember the likes of the religious right calling down fire and brimstone and blaming us for the collapse of Western society.

Don't think that quite happened.

In any case - it now makes me happy to see same-sex couples out and about in and around Boston. While the gentlemen are still somewhat few and far between, the ladies are rather bold, or perhaps comfortable enough with who they are and the same rights they have as me, to go out in public doing something most of us take for granted.

But let's talk about something else, which would be Uncle Walt's Empire.

I am entirely aware of the goings-on this past week, and the call for boycotts and cancel culture applied to the Mouse.

I'm sorry; I can't do that.

Yeah, we're all weirdos in the TriSec compound. But Disney has been a large and dominant part of our lives for decades. I am absolutely NOT giving up Star Wars (You might as well kill me now.), and we're in the midst of planning a big trip for 2028, when Mrs. Trisec will be turning 65!

But what does a boycott and cancellation get us? Sure, it will send a message - but won't that also have the effect of surrending Disney to the MAGA crowd?

Passing under the arch in central Florida might just be one of the last places in this country where people can play together without being "all that". I have written about it before.

Sure, there are plenty of jerks out there, but when you see the news about a riot or bad behaviour in Disney, who is it most of the time?

Nay, The Fab Five should not be yielded to the fascists. After all, when was the last time anyone actually flew the Stars and Stripes without feeling vaguely uneasy?

As always, your mileage may vary, and all opinions herein are solely my own.
