Cracks in the ICE
Author: BobR    Date: 01/28/2026 14:33:52

I don't think anyone had "Minneapolis" on their "ground zero" bingo card in the fight against the flames of fascism being fanned by the fat fucker. There have been two high-profile murders of innocent protesters, and who knows how many have been maimed and/or killed that haven't made the front page. The brownshirt tactics by ICE "agents" (erstwhile Proud Boys and Gravy Seals) have been treating this like a video game and feel empowered (and under-trained) to do whatever they please.

The difference between now and 1930s Germany is that we've seen this playbook before. While Republican fealty has given this maladministration carte blanche for most of the past year, it's now an election year for every member of the House and 1/3 of the Senate. It's pretty clear that only in the deepest of red areas in the country is this sort of fascism supported. These people want to get re-elected, and a lot of them know they are in purple districts.

So it's not surprise, then that the blame game is starting to ramp up, and the circular firing squad is starting to form:
Trump declined to say Sunday whether he supported the federal agent who fatally shot Pretti.

Asked twice in a five-minute interview with The Wall Street Journal whether the agent had done the right thing, Trump “didn’t directly answer,” the reporter wrote.

“We’re looking, we’re reviewing everything and will come out with a determination,” Trump told The Journal.

The president also indicated that his administration could eventually pull federal law enforcement officers out of Minnesota.

Some Republicans began to question publicly whether it was worth it for ICE to maintain such a heavy presence in a state where they’re not wanted by local leaders.

“If I were Trump, I would almost think about, ‘OK, if the mayor and the governor are going to put our Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials in harm’s way and there’s a chance of losing more innocent lives or whatever, then maybe go to another city and let the people of Minneapolis decide,’” James Comer, a Kentucky congressman and chairman of the House Oversight Committee, said on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo.”

Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt, a Republican, expressed concerns about Trump’s goals.

“Americans are asking themselves: ‘What is the endgame? What is the solution?’ We believe in federalism and state rights. And nobody likes feds coming into their states. And so what’s the goal right now? Is it to deport every single non-US citizen? I don’t think that’s what Americans want,” Stitt told CNN’s Dana Bash on “State of the Union.”

Congress has also gotten a DHS official to testify about the shooting murder of Pretti. It's pretty apparent they're all in damage control mode:
Trump says 'we're going to de-escalate a little bit'

The developments came a day after President Donald Trump ordered border czar Tom Homan to take over his administration’s immigration crackdown in Minnesota in the wake of Pretti's death, which was the second fatal shooting this month of a person at the hands of immigration law enforcement.

By sending Homan to Minnesota, “we’re going to de-escalate a little bit,” Trump said during an interview on Fox News’ “Will Cain Show.”

So yes, Bovino is out and Homan is in. Chief Nazi Stephen Miller even seems concerned for his job.

Our country has survived a "hot" Civil War, plus 2 world wars (and numerous others of our own making) - we can survive this. The majority of us do not want fascism, and as long as we voice our outrage at the polls, we can come back from the precipice.

Day 373... 1086 to go.
