Shrodinger's Senator
Author: BobR    Date: 07/29/2026 12:53:24

In the popular kids' books "Where's Waldo?", a goofy looking cartoon guy in a striped shirt and pointed hat is hidden amongst crowds, either at the beach or a fair, or any other such locale. In the theory proposed by Schrödinger, a cat in a box could either be alive or dead (or both), and you don't know until you look (this is has to do with quantum physics and the effect of observation on the state of matter).

Put them both together, and what have you got? Schrödinger's McConnell.

It's been six weeks since a fall led to his hospitalization. This is the fall:

In that video, you can also see where he froze for what seems like an eternity. There has been speculation that he had a stroke. Whatever it was, it apparently led to him ending up in the hospital. He has not spoken to the press since then, which is odd because he always seemed to love being in front of the camera.

Of course, there are the updates to his website and there are those who claim they've talked to him, but are they really trustworthy?

So we have to ask:
Is he dead?
Is he alive?
Is he something else?

Kentucky governor Andy Beshear wants to know as well:
Kentucky Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear wrote in a Monday letter to Republican U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell and his staff that the senator should “provide proof of your capacity to serve, or resign.”

The letter from the governor came after McConnell’s office shared a Monday statement from the senator and another photo of him with his wife, former Secretary of Labor and Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao. McConnell, 84, was hospitalized in June, but has since moved to a rehabilitation center for treatment. He has not been voting in the U.S. Senate throughout this time.

Speculation about the senator’s health and vitality has run rampant online.

The photos of McConnell have only made things worse, in the speculation department. Until he's been spoken to by a reputable member of the press, we'll never be entirely sure.

That box needs to be opened.
