I have been watching the trial of Derek Chauvin. It's triggering. It's upsetting. It has been at some points too much to watch. I purposefully did not view the original viral video of his death last year.

I didn't know that it was a 17-year-old girl who recorded it on Memorial Day 2020. I didn't know she had her 8-year-old cousin with her that day. I didn't know an 18-year-old cashier tended to Mr. Floyd at the convenience store that day. I didn't know an off-duty EMT tried to save his life. I wasn't aware that people all around the incident saw what was happening, filmed it knowing they wanted to do more, but couldn't.

With trial of ex-cop murderer Chauvin going on yesterday, it seemed like anything else would be buried. However, everyone's favorite game show "Republicans Behaving Badly" had an extra-special episode yesterday entitled "Matt Gaetz Is Said to Face Justice Dept. Inquiry Over Sex With an Underage Girl". This story - broken by the NY Times - is being picked up and repeated (yes, it's "gone viral"):

Representative Matt Gaetz, Republican of Florida and a close ally of former President Donald J. Trump, is being investigated by the Justice Department over whether he had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old and paid for her to travel with him, according to three people briefed on the matter.

Investigators are examining whether Mr. Gaetz violated federal sex trafficking laws, the people said. A variety of federal statutes make it illegal to induce someone under 18 to travel over state lines to engage in sex in exchange for money or something of value. The Justice Department regularly prosecutes such cases, and offenders often receive severe sentences.

It's Monday and it looks like the container shit is about 80% unblocked and is partially refloated. Just like the one in the Suez Canal, it's costing the world billions of trade dollars. This one however is far more despicable.

Crisis? What Crisis?

To hear the news pundits tell it, as soon as President Biden took office, there suddenly magically was a crisis occurring at the border. You'd expect that from FOX "News" (neither fair nor balanced), where their relationship with the truth is tenuous at best.

But even REAL news outlets, are using the same phrase "crisis" to describe what is happening there. ABC News titles their article "U.S. trying to dissuade migrant travel to ease growing border crisis". The NY Post says "VP Harris appears to blame Trump administration for border crisis".
