Fluffy Friday

Felt the need to have a little fluffy today, just to decompress a bit.

Business as Usual
Author: BobR    Date: 11/23/2016 14:03:49

It's now been 2 weeks since the 2nd Day That Will Live In Infamy, and it might already be time to see if any tRump voters are having buyer's remorse. During the campaign, he made a lot of promises that ranged from stupid to unconstitutional to horrific. While most of the coverage of the pResident-elect has been about his Cabinet picks, there has also been a slow news drip regarding the campaign promises he has steadily been walking back.

On of his promises was to root out corruption in DC and "drain the swamp". This one resonated particularly well with voters who see government as one big organized crime ring (this writer disagrees with that assessment). His choices for cabinet picks and advisors immediately belies that ideal. It makes sense, because he is really going to need people who understand government and how it works, since he is clueless in that regard. In addition, while he was campaigning, he registered 8 companies in Saudi Arabia that will be doing business there while he is president:

Ask a Vet
Author: TriSec    Date: 11/22/2016 10:46:25

Good Morning.

We'll start today we're we've all been recently - in Washington, DC. Among the many names floated for a possible Trump cabinet place are two from Massachusetts. Mitt Romney is no prize, but compared to Giuliani or Bolton - I'll gladly take him as Secretary of State. While he'd have to push Trump's policy around the world, at least he would be civil and proper - and that does go a long way in negotiations, even if you're arguing about dog poo.

The other is our erstwhile Senator Scott Brown, possibly as the Secretary of Veteran's Affairs. Surprisingly enough - we at AAV would not have a problem with this. While you know my feelings towards him as a Senator, I constantly harangued his office during his tenure about Veteran's issues. I never once felt that these concerns went unlistened to - and I received some positive responses from his office staff during those days. Mr. Brown is a veteran himself, although as a peacetime warrior he never fired a shot in anger. Nevertheless - he's not the worst choice.

About last night.
Author: Raine    Date: 11/21/2016 14:08:19

Good Morning.

This weekend we went to a friend's annual Friendsgiving party. We look forward to it every year as it gives us a chance to spend time with friends that usually leave town to visit family. Most of the people we see know where Bob and I stand on many issues, yet we don't normally talk about them at a social gathering like this. It's usually about friends, kids, beer and life in general. These people are fellow home brewers and a wider circle of friends that has grown since we moved to this area 8 years ago -- almost to the day. They are people who work in the private sector, they are contractors and some work in the federal government. Our friends are regular people who happen to live inside the beltway but make no mistake, there is no bubble. They live here, work here and raise families here. They don't generally marinate in this stuff the way we do here on this blog.

Camp Stub
Author: TriSec    Date: 11/19/2016 11:41:19

Good morning.

One of the advantages to staging a Cub Scout overnight at the camp that's within walking distance is I get to stay late, go home and sleep in my own bed, and run back to camp in the morning before anybody realizes I went home.

So I'm back off to camp this am and leaving you with a stub. Perhaps there is something to that 'Cheerful Service even in the midst of irksome tasks and weighty responsibilities" that I swore my honor to some years ago.

Stay strong.

While I want to be very chill and focused on working toward something positive that will lift people up. And frankly that is how we will need to be since they have painted us as angry rioters.

One Week In - On the precipice of the Abyss
Author: BobR    Date: 11/16/2016 14:57:37

It's been one week since The Day The Earth Stood Still (because it couldn't fucking believe that Americans elected the completely unqualified racist, sexist asshole). Inauguration Day is still 2 months away, but it feels like a lifetime since the election, and a blink of the eye until he rolls into the White House with his ego sporting a permanent stiffy. There have been numerous stories already describing how ill-equipped he is for this role (and how little he understood the responsibilities), but that's a blog for another day.

During the campaign, he villainized (or at least minimized) anyone who was not a straight, white, Christian male. His supporters certainly got THAT message, based on their actions in just the last week:
