A brief observation
Author: TriSec    Date: 04/18/2015 09:36:07

Good Morning.

Troop 248 is meeting up to head west to Niagara Falls in about an hour (6:30 am), so I'll make this quick. I've crossed the border multiple times as a Scout - mostly up in Calais, Maine on the way to Nova Scotia.

Fluffy Friday

This week Tennessee tried to make the Holy Bible their official State book. The only issue they had getting it out of their state house – which version. Eventually they settled on the “Holy Bible”. The Governor, Bill Haslam, and state Attorney General, Herbert Slatery opposed the bill, with Slatery stating he believed it violated both the state and federal constitutions.

Thankfully, yesterday the Tennessee state senate killed it. It’s not because more level heads prevailed, it was because they felt it wasn’t the “…time or place now in the full Senate floor to delve into that. We really need to look into it in committee,” Really? You need a committee for that?

Tell Us How You REALLY Feel
Author: Raine    Date: 04/16/2015 13:11:23

It's (sadly) amazing the things politics allows a person to say or not say.

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid is leaving office at the end of his term, and the gloves apparently are off. He gave an interview to CNBC, and had some colorful things to say…

Fact-Checking the Republican Memes
Author: BobR    Date: 2015-04-15 10:34:24

There are myriad ways that being a Republican believer means that you believe something to be absolutely true, despite evidence to the contrary (see Climate Change, Trickle-Down Economics, and The War on Christmas to name a few). Where things get dicey is in the topics that don't get a lot of discussion. In particular, lower and middle class Americans who consider themselves to be conservative have found scapegoats for their struggles, usually undeserved and tainted with stereotype. This often creates more problems. Perhaps we can do a "Snopes" on a few of these.

Ask a Vet

Good Morning.

Today is our 299th day back in Iraq.

There has been a new casualty in Afghanistan - more on that in a minute.

We find this morning's Cost of War passing through:

$ 1, 618, 598, 900, 000. 00

We'll head to nearby Whitinsville, MA. It's a small town in the middle part of the state - essentially a southern suburb of Worcester. Last Wednesday, Specialist John Dawson was killed in Afghanistan after an Afghan soldier opened fire on his US escorts while on a mission.

Sproing

Good Morning.

I just checked my thermometer, and it's 56 degrees here in the Greater Boston area. Yesterday, lakes Cochituate and Quinsigamond finally iced out, although a couple of the smaller bodies of water through Sudbury still had skim ice on them in spots.

Did you know if you google "light and fluffy" the first thing to come up is egg noodles? Then lots of baking. While I do enjoy baking that wasn't really what I was going for.
