This is the Bretton Woods Resort in New Hampshire, at the top of Franconia Notch. Brother TriSec is to be married next weekend, so a bunch of the guys are already upcountry at Kezar Lake. (Not too far away across the line in Maine.)

I'll be meeting everyone at Bretton Woods this morning; they're heading over for the canopy tour, but I couldn't get there in time. I might take a brief solo hike or maybe ride the chair to the summit and take a look around if the weather is clear before meeting up with everyone and heading back to camp.

But it's not just an old 19th century mountain resort. It's also the site of the Bretton Woods Conference. After the invasion of France, the Allies knew it was only a matter of time before the war was won. The Bretton Woods Conference was one of the many international meetings in the immediate postwar era that set the course for our modern world.

The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the General Agreement on Tarriffs and Trade, and the International Monetary Fund all came out of this one conference.

I've known about these events since I was a young boy. (Papa TriSec was a bit of a history buff too, I've been hearing about the conference since we used to spend summers up in the region long ago.) But I've never actually set foot in the hotel. Today I will, and I hope there's some historical information kicking around.

So that's it....see everyone tomorrow night!

At least someone is able to get up early on a Saturday.

Have a great day Tri.

I've been looking forward with great apprehension to refilling my waterbed after our move. While our neighbors downstairs "assembled" it when we moved in, I didn't want to actually fill it until I found the heater controller and made sure the bed was level.

Well, lucky I checked because the foot of the bed was more than an inch lower than the head (wrong holes used in the head/back boards), the heater was installed upside down and the frame feet were loose. Not to mention missing hardware.

So now it's a run to the hardware store for a couple of machine nuts then Jordan's Furniture for some waterbed anti-algae glop. It looks like this will be OK.

When you're used to getting up at 4AM and you have two furballs also expecting it, it's hard to get up much later.

Well, the bed is filling up. Hearing a few pops and gurgles as the mattress settles in. Looks like it's holding.

Stupid cats are hiding UNDER the bed....

DAMMIT!!!! The frame isn't holding. The supports in the center are bad.

And Cleo won't get out from under the bed.

Of course the way I drained the bed before won't work. I could set up a good siphon before to the downstairs kitchen sink. No such luck. I gotta get a pump.

Now BOTH cats are under the bed. I can't get to them.

ETA

Seems a good application of vacuum cleaner scared 'em out of there.

My cat likes to hide under the bed. She sometimes has gone under mine after I've fallen asleep.

This is gonna be fun. With the loss of a support or two, the water bladder has shifted and of course all the water has shifted to the end away from the drain. I'm using the "drain & fill" kit which depends upon a venturi action I think to suck the water out. It's slow, but it's happening.

Bed now emptied, but I'm hearing a hissing sound of air getting in.

Ah what have we here, a slice in the mattress. Grrrr

I think I know where I did that, trying to get it out of the truck and even though I had it in a bag I caught it on the bed frame. Hope I can patch it.

But first I need to get some little jack stands to replace the bad feet.

My wife was able to find a pump and boy did that drain the bed in a hurry, it sucked it out faster than the bathtub drain could get rid of it.

If it wasn't for that pump being able to suck that mattress down to where there was hardly any air in it, I never would have found the slice in it, because there was just a tiny tiny leak there but you could sure hear the air rushing back in through it.

Lucky escaped out the door again while I was taking trash out, got halfway down the hallway this time, but he came back when he was called.

Hello Rabbit.

Uhm -- Sounds like you have been having a most interesting day.

Hi Raine

Yeah, it's just one of those days, and tomorrow promises to be just as much fun. My back can't take too much more sleeping on this Aerobed, need a real bed.

I found from my Home Depot brother that there aren't any "little jacks" except for the hydraulic ones. What I really want are like car jack stands, only smaller. I think I know a way around it though. And if the patch on the mattress holds....
