This is the Bretton Woods Resort in New Hampshire, at the top of Franconia Notch. Brother TriSec is to be married next weekend, so a bunch of the guys are already upcountry at Kezar Lake. (Not too far away across the line in Maine.)

I'll be meeting everyone at Bretton Woods this morning; they're heading over for the canopy tour, but I couldn't get there in time. I might take a brief solo hike or maybe ride the chair to the summit and take a look around if the weather is clear before meeting up with everyone and heading back to camp.

But it's not just an old 19th century mountain resort. It's also the site of the Bretton Woods Conference. After the invasion of France, the Allies knew it was only a matter of time before the war was won. The Bretton Woods Conference was one of the many international meetings in the immediate postwar era that set the course for our modern world.

The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the General Agreement on Tarriffs and Trade, and the International Monetary Fund all came out of this one conference.

I've known about these events since I was a young boy. (Papa TriSec was a bit of a history buff too, I've been hearing about the conference since we used to spend summers up in the region long ago.) But I've never actually set foot in the hotel. Today I will, and I hope there's some historical information kicking around.

So that's it....see everyone tomorrow night!
