Truth Vaccine
Author: Raine    Date: 09/15/2011 12:55:59

Today I would like to take a look at this Perry/Bachmann HPV vaccination issue.

I don't have a problem with the vaccinations, to be honest... Rick Perry, however, only required it for females in his state. What is not reported is that it was overturned by the Texas legislature, AFTER he recieved a lot of money. But let's get back to that female thing... The CDC has stated it recommends it for males as well:
HPV vaccines prevent serious health problems, such as cervical cancer and other, less common cancers, which are caused by HPV (human papillomavirus). In addition to cancer, HPV can also cause other health problems, such as genital warts. HPV is a common virus that is easily spread by skin-to-skin contact during sexual activity with another person. It is possible to have HPV without knowing it, so it is possible to unknowingly spread HPV to another person. Safe, effective vaccines are available to protect females and males against some of the most common types of HPV and the health problems that the virus can cause.
So why not males? Are only girls sexually active? Are they the only ones responsible for sexual activity?

My biggest issue with what Rick Perry did is that he usurped the legislative channels in his state and signed an executive order requiring girls to get vaccinated. It was WHY he did it. Craig Crawford makes the point very well:
Merck & Co gave Perry $23,500 in direct contributions and much more laundered to his campaign coffers through its $500,000 donated to the Republican Governor's Association that he chaired, Bloomberg reports. (Ponzi scheme?)

While the Perry camp tries to change the subject by taking advantage of Michelle Bachmann's idiotic and unproven claim that the vaccine to prevent cervical cancer causes mental retardation, the real issue remains: Did he circumvent his state legislature and mandate a vaccine because its maker politically supports him and hired his former chief of staff as a lobbyist?
This is the real story here. It's one that Michelle Bachmann failed to highlight the other night. Instead, Bachmann worried about 'choice'. She wants choice when it comes to the vaccinations -- but for nothing else when it comes to a woman's reproductive health. Ironic. Instead she takes the word of some unknown supporter and repeats as truth: It causes mental retardation. When asked about it, she claimed she was just reporting what she was told.

All of this just shows to me how badly these people claim to represent themselves and others. The nuance and the understanding of what the real political implications are just not there. This is indeed a story of money and choice -- and how corrupted they are. If Michelle Bachmann can't make a case and carry through to it completion, how can anyone expect her to be President? She can't-- you can not be for choice and anti-choice at the same time. One needs to make a stand, and she did not. Instead she muddied her case up and further de-legitimized herself.

If Rick Perry is offended that he was accused of only taking $5,000 dollars (it was a far higher number, as explained above) from a drug manufacturer and then forcing vaccinations on young women -- and is still considered presidential material -- what do you think he will do as President? Rick Perry took a stand -- and is proud of his decision. He can be bought and sold, to hell with governance and the rule of law-- even if it is Texas. It's not what he did, it was HOW he went about doing it.

They all have talked with so much vitriol and hyperbole that they really can't talk themselves out of what they stand for -- if they stand for anything at all. They are avoiding the biggest issue here -- money and choice in politics. It only matters when it benefits their desire to win. That isn't standing for anything at all. that is pure pandering for power. Maybe we need a vaccination for truth.

and

Raine

Nicely said, Raine. Thanks for it.

In other news, Dakota Meyers will receive his Medal of Honor at the White House today. I heard a report about this on the NPR mosheen as well. Mr. Myers says he is being honored for the worst day of his life. Think about that.

In other news, I await Mala to chime in.... I love this story! This comment has me LOL:
The girl can't help it. Any way you want it, Michele Salahi just needed some lovin', touchin' and squeezin' and Neal Schon welcomed her faithfully with open arms. The wheel in the sky keeps turning and someday they will be captured dead or alive but until then they will keep on runnin' their separate ways down that Dixie highway to infinity. They can lay it down stone in love but some day the passion will escape and they will go their separate ways. That's what happens when you love a woman. That's what happens when you love a woman. It's just evolution. Ask the lonely like Tareq who will say "Who's crying now?"

I love that VA has its own soap opera XD

Part of me thinks its all a stunt cause they want to drum up press of either some auction thats happening Sunday online and onsite if anyone is interested in bidding or the supposed "re-opening" of the winery. I have to wonder how you can have a winery without the equipment you are auctioning off?

Idle thought...

What have we got today, the third Obama MOH ceremony at the White House? How many of them did Bush award?

I think I'll just wait here for the right to start crowing that Obama is handing them out like candy, simultaneously cheapening the award and trying to curry favor with the military.

There have been a total of 10 given out for gallentry in Iraq and Afganistan. What you need to remember is the three that Obama has given out have to been to people who are alive.

Interesting, we have 'spectrum' energy efficient Light bulbs. They resemble sunlight. I works for me.

They do however take a little while to warm up.

If they are replacing them with LED that works for me as well.

Hello, bloggers!

I hope that everyone is doing well. I am busy at home, waiting to hear back from Monday's interview. In the mean time, here is a story on Social Security and the President from Sam Stein at the Huffington Post:

Obama Won't Include Social Security Reform In Recommendations To Super Committee

WASHINGTON -- Jilted by Republican leadership during the deficit-reduction talks that accompanied the debt ceiling debate, the Obama administration is now pulling back an offer to put Social Security reform on the negotiating table.

The president will not include changes to that program in the series of deficit reduction measures that he will offer to the congressional super committee next Monday, administration officials confirm.

During talks with House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) this past summer, President Barack Obama had discussed changing the way that Social Security benefits were paid so that a lower level of benefits were paid over time. Boehner walked away from that deal, which was part of a much broader package, because of concern over a corresponding tax increase. Now, Obama is putting off support for that idea of changing the inflation formula of Social Security to chained consumer price index (CPI).

“The president’s recommendation for deficit reduction will not include any changes to Social Security because, as the president has consistently said, he does not believe that Social Security is a driver of our near and medium term deficits," said White House spokeswoman Amy Brundage. "He believes that both parties need to work together on a parallel track to strengthen Social Security for future generations rather than taking a piecemeal approach as part of a deficit reduction plan.”

"There will be no Social Security in the recommendations," Brundage added.

They do seem to be trying to make themselves look as much as Ronald Reagan without going to plastic surgeons. Maybe just listen to the voices.

I am not sure that Romney would be acceptable to the Republican base as a VP candidate. There is the issue of Romneycare as well as his being a Mormon.

Romeny would pander to Meth addicts in order to get a vote. Today he is looking for that ever elusive Cheney Vote:

"And I listened to him speak and said whether you agree or disagree with him, this a man of wisdom and judgment, and he could have been president of the United States," he said, adding, "That's the kind of person I'd like to have -- a person of wisdom and judgment."

At the same time, Romney did not rule out picking a "tea party person" for the VP slot.

Romney has also called Cheney's 2009 criticism of President Barack Obama's national security policy "direct, well-reasoned, and convincing."

While the former vice president didn't endorse Romney in 2008, his daughter, Liz, did join the candidate's campaign.
