A Parable
Author: TriSec    Date: 10/15/2011 11:25:00

Good Morning.

Most of you know about my wanderings among the major Abrahamic religions over the past few years. (No secrets around here, eh?) Over the past couple of months, I've started listening to a New Testament podcast. It's a hoot, actually...they are apparently using the King James version, full of "Thees" and "Thoughs" and many instances of when Jesus "Spake". (And one outright , concerning the virgin birth: 'But how am I to bear a child, for I have not known a man?' "The Holy Spirit will come upon thee." But I digress.)

I'm up to a certain parable Jesus taught shortly before his triumphant entry into Jerusalem...given below in its entirety from the Bible Gateway.

Luke 19:11-26

The Parable of the Ten Minas

11 While they were listening to this, he went on to tell them a parable, because he was near Jerusalem and the people thought that the kingdom of God was going to appear at once.

12 He said: “A man of noble birth went to a distant country to have himself appointed king and then to return.

13 So he called ten of his servants and gave them ten minas. ‘Put this money to work,’ he said, ‘until I come back.’

14 “But his subjects hated him and sent a delegation after him to say, ‘We don’t want this man to be our king.’

15 “He was made king, however, and returned home. Then he sent for the servants to whom he had given the money, in order to find out what they had gained with it.

16 “The first one came and said, ‘Sir, your mina has earned ten more.’

17 “‘Well done, my good servant!’ his master replied. ‘Because you have been trustworthy in a very small matter, take charge of ten cities.’

18 “The second came and said, ‘Sir, your mina has earned five more.’

19 “His master answered, ‘You take charge of five cities.’

20 “Then another servant came and said, ‘Sir, here is your mina; I have kept it laid away in a piece of cloth.

21 I was afraid of you, because you are a hard man. You take out what you did not put in and reap what you did not sow.’

22 “His master replied, ‘I will judge you by your own words, you wicked servant! You knew, did you, that I am a hard man, taking out what I did not put in, and reaping what I did not sow?

23 Why then didn’t you put my money on deposit, so that when I came back, I could have collected it with interest?’

24 “Then he said to those standing by, ‘Take his mina away from him and give it to the one who has ten minas.’

25 “‘Sir,’ they said, ‘he already has ten!’

26 “He replied, ‘I tell you that to everyone who has, more will be given, but as for the one who has nothing, even what they have will be taken away.

27 But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them—bring them here and kill them in front of me.’”

I had considered doctoring it up to reflect what I was thinking when I heard it, but I think you can probably see the same things I did without too much of a stretch. It's been said that you can find things in favor or against any position on any subject in the pages of the bible. I'll post it again, because it seems unfortunate that the Republicans have based their recent policy on this one passage:

‘I tell you that to everyone who has, more will be given, but as for the one who has nothing, even what they have will be taken away.

Perhaps Jesus meant that about faith.

It's funny you wrote this today, Tri. Yesterday I stumbled across this:

Proverbs 22:16 (I'll show the KJ America version) He that oppresses the poor to increase his riches, and he that gives to the rich, shall surely come to want.

Good day folks. Finally got a weekend off so I am unwinding this weekend although I did put in for Christmas and New Year's this year and hoping I get them. With all the time I put in and the life I don't off, I should get some payback.

The sad reality is that the Masters of the Universe that are the 1% are - for the most part - not too concerned with the finer details of Christianity

Can someone help me wrap my head around this?

Nearly 1,000 Tennessee state employees on food stamps

Tennessee isn't a big state. The percentage has to be sizable.

OK, I answered my own question:
Our State government is the largest employer in Tennessee with over 37,000 Career Service employees working in over 1,400
different job classifications.

So they've taken their cue from the Wal-Mart School of Business.

Rick Perry's wife blames Obama because her precious snowflake Griffin quit his job at an investment bank to work on his father's campaign.

Cry moar.

Well, Perry's wife never comes out and says he's unemployed, stopping just before that point to say he lost his job.

Oh, it's a Perry Campaign blog. Definitely a truthful source.

I'm sure the teabaggers will rally 'round Griffin and his daddy.
