Things That Piss Me Off
Author: BobR    Date: 03/07/2008 13:31:00

It's Friday and I should be happy it's almost the weekend. Yet after perusing the headlines, I'm pissed off. There are so many things, I can't tie them all together with quotes and commentary, so in a rare departure from my usual eloquence , I'll just give you the links and let you see for yourselves:

Yet another boogie-man al Qaeda scare, this time regarding the elections. Wolf!, I say...

KBR - which makes it's living off of tax dollars - creates shell companies in the Cayman Islands to avoid paying taxes. When are we going to make this sort of thing illegal??

Canada tosses conviction due to torture. Well THAT was certainly worth it... :grumble:

Spain does the same thing. What the hell are we doing?? :rage:

Homeland security agents committing the crimes they're supposed to stop. I sure am glad we have the DHS around to keep us safe... :rolleyes2:

U.S. Government has unfettered access to Verizon data. Yep - they've got a cable going in the back door and can listen to calls, read text messages - on anyone... without having to get a warrant.

Domestic Intelligence network being created. Kind of like the CIA but for collating data on Americans. Welcome to 1984.

Blood thinning drug (from China, of course) is diluted with counterfeit version of the drug, resulting in U.S. deaths. So they've moved on from killing pets and children to older folks. Maybe now the old farts in Congress that need these drugs will do something. FWIW - why do we have to import these from China?

Are you sufficently pissed yet too? I didn't even bother with all of Hillary's Republican-style campaign tactics (which is perhaps why I've been in a grumpy mood).

I don't want to send y'all off into the world feeling pissed too, though, so here's one brighter spot of news to end this on a high note:

Carter, Annan plan visit to Israel, Gaza to help negotiate ceasefire:
Former US president Jimmy Carter and former UN secretary-general Kofi Annan wish to arrive in Israel in the coming months in order to help negotiate a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, Army Radio reported.

The two contacted the Prime Minister's Office and requested to meet Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.

They also asked to be allowed in the Gaza Strip to meet with Hamas officials.

According to the report, Israel is opposed to the initiative, but officials said that Jerusalem would be well advised to try and channel the visit into a positive track so as not to damage the country's image in the media.

Can Jimmy Carter work his magic again? I hope so. Perhaps he can convince Israel that peace is another legitimate path to safety...

:peace:

Mr. Angry Man today?

Course there is an awful lot to be angry with these days. Didn't check all the links yet, but the Verizon data is one that really pisses me off, being one of their customers, er rather, "targets"? What would I be? And I'm paying them to look at my text messages and listen? I must be insane.

Soon.......soon..........

Miss Velveeta is close to death's door. So what does it matter. *cough* *sneeze* *ack*

Morning, folks. A couple of observations from the Northeast Corner today...

We've got an AWACS orbiting over Boston this morning. I saw the racetrack pattern high over the city when I was driving in, then again when we went across the street for breakfast....in my experience, only AWACS and tankers do that at altitude. It certainly wasn't a commercial jet, it was too high and the holding pattern for Logan Airport isn't directly over the city, either. (and don't think that I don't know where they are )

Has anyone else noticed the sudden, total extinction of the Hummer? I only noticed because I saw one on the road the other day, then realized that I haven't seen any on the road in literally weeks. Gas prices catching up with you there, small-penis folks?

Anyway, I digress. I should be in for Momma today!

Velveeta! Oh no...

Things that piss me off ( just this morning ):

- upselling..."Um, if I WANTED a hash brown I would have ORDERED IT!!!!"

- people who take their sweet a** time getting off the elevator that you are waiting for.

Other than that, happy friday Bloggie!

Good morning everyone.

Tri, if you didn't see my post last night, I would be interested in a meet-up if you go to Lancaster in August. It's only a few hours drive for me and it's been a while since I have been there. I do miss the Wilbur Chooclate Factory.

You must have given up on the Bruins for sure since they were crushed by the Maple Leafs 8-2.

She doesn't see it that way. I am stunned to see how different our views are politically. She has been living between San Francisco and the Phillipines for the past 3 years, so we don't talk nearly as much as we used to and I just never realized ....

He is a bit Editorial, but he usually prefaces that by saying it's his "Special Comment." I think that is the way journalism has gone in general though. It's rare that you don't get Editorializing.

But, of all the Big Media Anchors/Pundits/Journalists Keith is the best.

And look at how well that worked out.

The DLC is part of the problem with the Democratic Party. They have moved it to the right and the only thing that distinguishes them is that the Republicans have moved so far to the right that they have become fascists. We need a true left voice in power in this country.

It's early, but the Dow is down 63 points and is trading under 12,000 right now.

But here's what I find telling: 52-Week Range (Low - High): 11,634.82 - 14,198.10

Just another 300 points to reach the 52 week low...which depending on where that low fell, stocks have been flat for a full year or have had a precipitous decline recently.

Where does that fit in to the recession/depression discussion?

So we have a chain happening. This is all about time travel now, no?

And is Desmond one of the survivors?

Saiid is. HE works for Ben.

I've also heard these women called Stephanie and Randi who are also buying gold. Do they have safes to hoard it in?

Comment by starling310 on 03/07/2008 18:53:29
What confuses me about Gold is this: everything I hear says "Gold is at an all time high." For buying? Or, selling? Because I don't want to buy it at it's highest price. . . that would just be silly.

That's like people who bought credit cards and comic books hoping that they would be worth a ton of money and then the collector's markets bottomed out due to speculation.

Anyone who bought that Superman 75 Death of Superman issue is disappointed because they printed so many copies that it never became valuable.

The film centres on a group of pompous actors making the most expensive Vietnam war movie ever made.

Fed up with their self-involved cast, the film's makers drop them into the jungle to take care of themselves, where they get caught up in a conflict they don't realise is real.

The cast also includes Steve Coogan, Nick Nolte and cameos from Tom Cruise and Tobey Maguire.

Stiller said he was "trying to push it as far as you can within reality," with the intent of satirising over-the-top actors, not African-Americans.

"I had no idea how people would respond to it," Stiller told the magazine. But at a recent screening, black viewers liked the film", he said.

The film, Stiller's first as director since Zoolander, also sees his character adopt an Asian baby but worries "that all the good ones have gone".

I have a complete set of 1980 vintage "Empire Strikes Back" trading cards (silver border). Only I'd rate the condition as only 'fair', it's not mint in the original, unsealed packaging. But I do have a complete 1986 Red Sox Team Set (feat. Roger Clemens) that

is unopened in the original clamshell box...

I've been joking off and on that those two cardsets represent the bulk of our retirement investing...

Marvel did a different approach with Captain America #25 by not leaking word out of the story so no one knew until the issue came out that Captain America was going to get killed. They also printed fewer copies so the issue has become more valuable on that.

I think actors like to push themselves and if it had been Ben Stiller himself doing it I would say bad idea, but Downey has never been a actor to shy away from controversy and I think he handles it well. I liked his comment that out it was a role they would have called Peter Sellers to do but if they did it wrong he was going to hell. I think he gets it.

How many times do we let ourselves get into terrible situations because we don't say "I forgot"? Let's say you're on trial for armed robbery. You say to the judge, "I forgot armed robbery was illegal." Let's suppose he says back to you, "You have committed a foul crime. you have stolen hundreds and thousands of dollars from people at random, and you say, 'I forgot'?" Did you see last night's Colbert Report with the photoshop of Bush and Stephen Colbert sharing a hot dog?

No - but now I have a good reason to DVR it tonight at 8:30! (I hope...)

I gotta say, at first I thought, "what a dope Bush is for serving hot dogs." But then I remembered learning that JFK served them to the Queen of England.

Thus, my second thought was simply, "what a dope Bush is." [insert one of the 1000's of reasons here]

Gary Hart: Breaking the Final Rule.

Check this out;

By saying that only she and John McCain are qualified to lead the country, particularly in times of crisis, Hillary Clinton has broken that rule, severely damaged the Democratic candidate who may well be the party's nominee, and, perhaps most ominously, revealed the unlimited lengths to which she will go to achieve power. She has essentially said that the Democratic party deserves to lose unless it nominates her.

There you go.
