The Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy
Author: Raine    Date: 07/26/2013 12:58:37

A very interesting article was published by Mother Jones yesterday.
One of the influential conservatives guiding the group is Virginia "Ginni" Thomas, a columnist for the Daily Caller and a tea party consultant and lobbyist. Other Groundswell members include John Bolton, the former UN ambassador; Frank Gaffney, the president of the Center for Security Policy; Ken Blackwell and Jerry Boykin of the Family Research Council; Tom Fitton, the president of Judicial Watch; Gayle Trotter, a fellow at the Independent Women's Forum; Catherine Engelbrecht and Anita MonCrief of True the Vote; Allen West, the former GOP House member; Sue Myrick, also a former House GOPer; Diana Banister of the influential Shirley and Banister PR firm; and Max Pappas, a top aide to Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas).
Every 'scandal" surrounding washington recently has been pushed to become so by this group of people that include 'journalists', politicians as well as their aides; conservative activists and think tanks. As of now, we don't even know all the players. Although there are 23 people listed in the article there is also this:
A certain amount of secrecy cloaks Groundswell's efforts. Though members have been encouraged to zap out tweets with a #GSW hashtag, a message circulated to members of its Google group noted that the role of certain advocates should be kept "off of the Google group for OPSEC [operational security] reasons." This "will avoid any potential for bad press for someone if a communication item is leaked," the message explained. (The Groundswell documents were provided to Mother Jones by a source who had access to its Google group page and who has asked not to be identified.)

It's easy to say we knew this all along, but the levels and depth to which this goes should be spread far and wide. At least two Fox News contributors are on the list: Alan West and John Bolton.

This is collusion to provide misinformation. It's been suspected for a while. In this report we see that it is very real -- not suspicious -- and at a very high and deep level. Media Matters reports:
Since the 2012 election, a civil war in the conservative movement has divided Rove and his allies from other right-wing elements who believe Rove is insufficiently ideological. Much of the debate has focused on The Conservative Victory Project, a new group Rove is launching with the help of allies of Crossroads political groups to support Republican officeholders against Tea Party challengers. That effort has drawn harsh criticism from some of Rove's Fox News colleagues.
Be very very aware of every meme and talking point out there. It's important because of stories like this.
Did Daily Caller pay to frame Menendez?

Some background: The Daily Caller on Nov. 1 reported that Dominican women, interviewed via web-video link, alleged that Menendez had paid them for sex. That story cited Figueroa by name as the lawyer representing the women. Though the women told the Daily Caller that they were promised $500 for their services and received only $100, the story failed to provide a compelling explanation as to why they’d testify to the alleged encounter with Menendez.
The Daily Caller later recanted the story -- after real journalism occurred but not before the damage to Menendez was done. It's no coincidence to me that Ginni Thomas - a prominent member of Groundswell - is also a columnist for the Daily Caller.

Just to further this conspiracy, it shouldn't be forgotten that Premiere Radio Network actually has a bank of paid voice actors to call into radio shows.
Curious, the actor did some snooping and learned that Premiere On Call was a service offered by Premiere Radio Networks, the largest syndication company in the United States and a subsidiary of Clear Channel Communications, the entertainment and advertising giant. Premiere syndicates some of the more sterling names in radio, including Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, and Sean Hannity. But a great radio show depends as much on great callers as it does on great hosts: Enter Premiere On Call.

“Premiere On Call is our new custom caller service,” read the service’s website, which disappeared as this story was being reported (for a cached version of the site click here). “We supply voice talent to take/make your on-air calls, improvise your scenes or deliver your scripts. Using our simple online booking tool, specify the kind of voice you need, and we’ll get your the right person fast. Unless you request it, you won’t hear that same voice again for at least two months, ensuring the authenticity of your programming for avid listeners.”
It still exists. People are paid to troll liberal message boards as well. "Commenters popping in to make one comment then leaving, with talking points that are very similar to other one-off commenters engaging in the exact same behavior." Within Groundswell, "members have been encouraged to zap out tweets with a #GSW hashtag..." It's a dirty game and a lot of people are being played for fools on the right. It's the best Democracy Money Can Buy -- or is it Lie?

Fortunately there are tells when it comes to anonymous people posting on the series of tubes, the internets, as it were. There are solutions to deal with this:
At one time, some of the 'tells' of the right-wing ‘sock puppet’ troll was their use of terms such as 'DemoRATS' or ‘Demonrats’ for Democrats, and their repeatedly calling Obama 'Obummer,' 'Obomber' or 'Obomba.' But they've mostly changed that language as actual progressives began to notice those repeated constructions and the fetid and simpleminded opinions attached to them. Some current 'tells' are when they don't mention the GOP at all, or claim both parties are just as 'evil,' or try to shut down the conversation with insults, or push readers to vote for any third party, or say that they'd rather vote for a Republican than a Democrat, or make statements with no factual basis, or refer you to a right-wing website to ‘confirm’ their assertions.
(snip)
Our only protection against such ersatz assaults is to use our heads and common sense: if someone is a little ‘too’ enraged at Obama and the Democrats, be suspicious, especially if they never talk about Republicans. Ask them a couple of polite intelligent questions on the comment thread’s topic; if they respond by condemning or insulting you for questioning them rather than engaging you, they’re likely a sock-puppet troll; it’s in their nature to consider any question or disagreement as tantamount to treason. Also, if they keep reposting basically the same idea in one comment thread, they’re probably a sock-puppet troll; they’ve been instructed by their masters that repetition works. And don’t be swayed if they accuse you of being a ‘shill’ or ‘troll’ for questioning them -- they are trained to do that.

Finally, always remember: you can pretend to be a progressive, but you can’t pretend to be smart, and these paid ‘blog warriors’ decidedly aren’t.

In order to deal with Groundswell, it will take a lot more effort to get beyond the chattering of Scandal-gate-2013. Verify before you trust. There are countless times when an opinion page article (often written by people mentioned in the Mother Jones article) metastasizes so much that people believe it as fact. Some examples: Fast and Furious, IRS-gate, Benghazi, (insert controversy here). Often the truth is somewhere in between and rarely is it as bad as people are led to believe.

All this and I haven't even mentioned the Ratf*cking right. I have warned about the Professional Left. Some conspiracies are actually real.

and
Raine

I don't think it is just the Groundswellers, they are just one facet of the conservative echo machine.

Mornin' all & Happy Fridee!!

Been a painful morning.. starting with a splinter from my apartment's wood floor and whacking my head on the shower handle when bending down to pick up the washcloth.

Say gang, since I survived cancer I'm expecting to get mown down by an 18-wheeler at any moment .

That almost happened this morning.

Westbound Mass Pike, in heavy rain, fog, and limited visibility.

I'm exiting at 10A to get to 146 to Worcester. Already in my lane and decelerating.

Moron in the center lane at about 70 mph decides she wants to exit, too. Stands on the brakes, signals, then cuts in front of a tractor-trailer minding his own business in the right lane.

Airhorn, locked-up tires, the works.

Fortunately, he held it and got around our genius driver, or you'd be reading about a jacknifed TT and some spoilt meat and crushed tinfoil that used to be Your Loyal Trisec.

Something I found interesting in this link I used in todays blog.

One of these is Doug Goetzloe, an anti-tax right-wing talk show host and former Young Republican who heads up Advantage Consultants. Here is the copy from one of his ads advising his conservative clients to ‘flood the zone’ on progressive sites:
Doug Goetzloe is now in jail.

He helped to get Skeletor elected in Florida.

Raine, Alex Parrene over to Salon has a totally snarky angle on Groundswell!

Long story short: Mother Jones’ David Corn received another wonderful leak. This one is about a bunch of true-believing far-right clowns, and how hard they are all working at fighting a bunch of people who didn’t even know they were involved in in an ideological war against Ginni Thomas.

I'm not as jaded as Parrene is about this. Oh, it's snarky alright -- but they are doing damage. They whip up the low information voters -- and in mid term elections they show up and vote out of outrage.

That happens every primary cycle though. I'm not trying to be difficult. If it wasn't Groundswell it would be some other bunch of clowns.

Good day, folks. The problem I have when arguing with my rightie friends is the big wall of denial they put up when you mention any of this. But ever since I read "Conservatives Without Conscience" back during the Bush years I have seen a lot more of this behavior from the Right as the GOP has now gone very hard-right.
