Shillary Claims Sexism is the Reason for Her Campaign Failure...

First, I must thank Raine for pointing us to numerous clips of the now onerous Geraldine Ferraro - who I must confess was once a hero of mine - she is the reason I voted for the Mondale ticket, but now I have become so disgusted with her that I can't watch and/or listen to her rant about how sexist this campaign has become or always has been. Has it occurred to any of these feminists that it may not be Hillary's gender that sunk her campaign, rather it was the way that she ran her campaign (listening to Mark Penn, having no plan for the race after Super Tuesday, having her husband on the stump making race an issue when he should have known better, etc...)

Next I would like to direct your attention to a comment posted at Slate by Dahlia Lithwick (forgive me for replaying a comment from yesterday's blog - but this entire post is a bunt ):
Sorry for the long comment, folks, but this was sent to me by a long-time friend who is one of the strongest feminists I have ever known (and who BTB is an Obama supporter), It is from yesterday's Slate, written by Dahlia Lithwick and I think it is right on. I have felt for some time now that we are heading toward a potentially tragic ending in this primary race and the one who could prevent this tragedy is the one who is bringing it about (I am, of course, referring to Hillary) . Your thoughts and comments on the following are, as always, appreciated.

I don’t think anyone disputes that hideous instances of sexism have been stirred up in this campaign. Nor does anyone dispute that Ms. Clinton is entitled to address it, which she has done very deftly at times. The question is whether she’s entitled to reduce her entire failed campaign to sexism—which has the practical effect of splitting women into those-who-are-angry-about-sexism, and those who what? Think it’s acceptable? There’s one other practical effect that warrants mentioning, and that is that it reduces a complex, brilliant, and talented candidate to a big whomping cliché. My friend Susannah writes: “I find it increasingly unbearable to watch Hillary. It feels like she has become the archetype I find most painful to see in women—a high-maintenance, delusional, and "difficult" woman who feels entitled to do whatever she likes. ... Meanwhile, Obama is forced to tiptoe around essentially just humoring her. There is a pathetic "Yes, dear" quality to the way he is forced to react to her these days.”

This mirrors a sense I’ve had that we might have finally crossed the Hirshman line. Linda Hirshman argued persuasively that all powerful, ambitious women are at some point dismissed as “hysterical” or “insane.” Too true. The problem now is that when Clinton behaves irrationally, we can’t call her out for it because it would be sexist. If we can't call irrational behavior irrational because the character in question is a woman, then it’s a short hop from here to a Tennessee Williams play ...

I think it's time for Momma to utter her infamous line from A Streetcar Named Desire - "Blanche, it is time to go." Carry on mis amigos...

Great Random: I've got something else:

STOCKTON, Calif. -- Republican John McCain on Thursday rejected endorsements from two influential but controversial televangelists, saying there is no place for their incendiary criticisms of other faiths.

McCain rejected the months-old endorsement of Texas preacher John Hagee after an audio recording surfaced in which the preacher said God sent Adolf Hitler to help Jews reach the promised land. McCain called the comment "crazy and unacceptable."

He later repudiated the support of Rod Parsley, an Ohio preacher who has sharply criticized Islam and called the religion inherently violent.

McCain issued a statement Thursday afternoon announcing his decision about Hagee.

"Obviously, I find these remarks and others deeply offensive and indefensible, and I repudiate them. I did not know of them before Reverend Hagee's endorsement, and I feel I must reject his endorsement as well," he said.

Later, in Stockton, he told reporters: "I just think that the statement is crazy and unacceptable."

This is the headline from HuffPo............. Discuss!

First, as a stickler for all things theatre........... the "famous" line from Streetcar was spoken by Blanche: "I've always depended on the kindness of strangers" [Fade to Black]. The other line may well have been said, but it ain't the famous one!

Great post Roomie....I agree. Last night, I was thinking about that very thing. There have been examples of sexism regarding Hillary, absolutely! And, some of them have been downright disgusting. But, there are also plenty of people voting for her "because she's a woman."

Her campaign failed for several reasons. Sexism isn't even in the Top 5, in :star:'s humble opinion.

Regarding the Thom Hartmann letter. I don't know if it's his idea to be fair or he has to suck up the pro-Shillary AAR management. But he seems a little blind to the fact that HRC is not a progressive which is the main reason I don't support her and her campaign tactics and wanting to move the goal posts have further disgusted me with her.

I do it all the time....I order Showtime so I can watch the L Word and then I switch it off when the season ends.

You will have to pay for a full month even if you only watch a day.

But, it's probably around $20, so that would be like buying the movie I guess.

Most cable systems now actually charge between 12 and 15 for premiums and some may even go down to 9.95 or less when multi-premiums are subscribed to. And you would get the whole multiplex if you have digital cable and on most cable systems the On Demand service as well.

We used to order it when something was coming on that we wanted to watch an then cancel it. You still have to pay a minimum of one month (used to be 10 bucks). They may have wised up to that - I don't know...

Comment by TriSec on 05/23/2008 19:15:23
Ah, some of you may have been wondering about my recent whining over "NPI", as well as my lack of visibility in the blog these past few weeks.

Well, here's the answer.

When it comes to billing and paying for Medicare services, May 23 could go down in history as an information technology disaster comparable to what many feared would happen with the Year 2000 date change.

May 23 is the deadline for the health care industry to use only National Provider Identifiers for Medicare activities. Stewart Streimer, director of the Provider Billing Group at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ Center for Medicare Management, said he is concerned that the health care industry might not be ready for the changeover.

CMS has taken steps to ensure that more than 100 of its own systems are ready, he said, but some of the many companies and individuals involved in Medicare billing might not have done likewise.

At a meeting of the National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics in Washington, Streimer said he is cautiously optimistic because a test on May 7 went well, with nearly 80 percent of claims conforming to the new NPI rule.

But an expert on the committee, Dr. Walter Suarez, president and chief executive officer of the Institute for HIPAA/HIT Education and Research, said that although full NPI implementation could happen without a glitch, May 23 “might be the real Y2K.”

“Your analogy to Y2K is on point,” Streimer said in response.

CMS must rely on many other entities to comply with the NPI requirement, such as companies that process Medicare claims and forward doctors’ bills to insurers.

All but one of the more than 550 insurers that offer Medicare supplemental coverage have told CMS they are ready for the change, and the one holdout is a small company, Streimer said.

In one worst-case scenario, doctors who don’t comply with the NPI rule wouldn’t be paid for treating Medicare patients and could refuse to care for them until payment is received. If state systems aren’t ready, patients with few alternatives could be turned away from doctors’ offices.

When committee member Judith Warren, director of nursing informatics at the University of Kansas Center for Healthcare Informatics, raised that possibility, Streimer said, “We have not heard that providers are threatening to deny access to care.”

But, he said, CMS has made contingency plans in the event of processing problems. “We are well-prepared to take whatever steps need to be taken,” he added.

I don't watch the dancing show, but do you watch Top Chef? Do you despise Lisa as much as I do? What a biatch. And Spike? What a worm. I would like to see Richard, Antonia and Stephanie in the final three.

Since when is an insurance company allowed to ask about your sexual activities? I guess I better seal off the dungeon just in case they start doing home visits.

:Izzy scrambles to the office to burn tapes: Note: Call Paris. Hope she knows how to use a lighter.

Comment by IzzyBitz on 05/23/2008 20:06:48
Are NPI's billing codes for different procedures and services? If so, I understand what a pain in the ass it is to change everything over to a new coding system. Yikes.

Comment by TriSec on 05/23/2008 20:16:07
NPI is the national provider identifier.

in a nutshell, say you were in Massachusetts. In Eastern Mass alone, there's Harvard Pilgrim, Tufts, BCBS-MA, Network Health, Cambridge Health Alliance, Neighborhood Health Plan, and many more insurances.

Each one of those would require that the doctor have a specific ID number for each plan.

NPI changes that, it mandates that all providers have just one ID number that will work for every health plan in the country.

Oh, meant to mention this one the other day, but here is another area of Georgia doing me proud...

This was the cover of a local paper in Roswell Georgia, A suburb of atlanta...

The paper is defending itself saying that they were talking abotu security issues regarding the candidate.

One of the things that pisses me off SO much is that When someone like Hillary says what she did, some f*cking winger will get a bug up his ass and possibly get ideas.

I am so ill today It is unbelievable.

It's a good thing we already had the Mass primary.

You don't insult the Kennedys, nor play the assassination card. It's simply not done in these parts.

Short witty piece from David Rees on HuffPo:

Anybody watch Step It Up And Dance last night? HOT STUFF!

Anyway gang, I just read something remarkable. "Remarkable" as in, "It is remarkable that my eyeballs are still in my head after reading that."

In an interview with the editorial board of the Sioux Falls Argus-Leader today, Hillary Clinton brought up Bobby Kennedy's June, 1968 assassination as an argument against her dropping out of the Democratic primary.

"My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. I don't understand it," she said, dismissing calls to drop out.

She has a point: June is a great month for political assassinations.

Why drop out of the race before all the assassins have had their say?

After all, we know Barack Obama has received multiple death threats -- because he is black, of course, and because some of our fellow citizens think he's a secret Muslim terrorist who is going to take the oath of office on the Koran and make us all pray to Mecca five times a day with that screechy music coming over the loudspeakers(?) and then he'll fly Air Force One into the White House(?).

And the truth is, Obama has consistently failed to win over those voters who want to see him murdered.

UPDATE (5:45 PM):

In the interest of fairness, I should note that Hillary has since apologized for her curious statement. That is, she has apologized to the Kennedys.

I'm trying to comprehend what it would mean for the US if the unthinkable happened and the Senator from Illinois was "unable to complete the campaign".

I must talk to my stepmum....I was a mere 22 months old when Robert Kennedy met his end. My father remarried a much younger woman...she's older than me yes, but by less than 20 years.

But I wonder if she would think the request from out of left field...."Christine....tell me about Bobby Kennedy....."

it's great. What needs to happen now is one of the Kennedy's to come out (preferably Teddy) and give this statement: "I do not accept Senator Clinton's apology for the horrendous statement she made Friday. I refuse to accept it until she apologizes for comparing the tradegedy of my (enter relation) to that of Senator Obama's campaign. I will not accept an apology until she recognizes that her words are much more hurtful to Senator Obama and his family, than it is to mine. Senator Clinton, if you do not understand the real issue here, I can not accept your apology"

I really find it sad reading comments about people defending Hillary's comments. They say "She didn't say he'd get shot," or "she doesn't want him assassinated". At some point you want to hit them for missing the point. It's not so much what she believes, but how stupid can she possiblt be to bring up Assassination, especially in a heated contest where (I'm sure both) have received deaththreats out the wazoo. It's sad...deplorable.
