Since the time of Greek Tragedy, we have been warned of the dangers of hubris. It's a simmering stew of pride, narcissism, and stubbornness that causes the hubristic to crash headlong into dire fates, ignoring the warnings along the way, assuming ones self to be immune to the consequences. There's a saying "Pride goeth before a fall", which fits into this same description. It also seems to be befitting of Candidate tRump.

As Citizen tRump, he was able to do all sorts of "business" without attracting a lot of attention. Sure, he'd splash his name all over everything like a dog marking his territory, but after a while people just shook their heads and chalked it up to "Trump being Trump". He was a ridiculous figure, one who bragged about his business acumen, while privately filing bankruptcies and quietly walking away from his many failures with whatever shekels he could stash in his sack.

For some reason (perhaps a narcissistic need), the attention he was getting as Citizen tRump wasn't enough, and decided to run for president. He found that the more outrageous things he said, the more attention he got, and the more he rose in the polls. To the media, he was performing monkey always reliable for pooping in his hand and throwing it everywhere. To the Republican primary voters, he was the voice of their inner Id, and they liked seeing their dank reflections in his words. Campaign advisers and Republican party leaders asked him to reel it in, to dial down the rhetoric. In his hubris, Candidate tRump did not anticipate any potential blowback in his scorched earth campaign. He assumed he would be able to stand toe-to-toe with seasoned politicians.

Candidate tRump went so far as to ask Russia to hack Secretary Clinton's emails, after it was discovered that Russia hacked the DNC. Democrats in the House were not amused. Besides the blatant borderline treason of such a request (which he would claim as a joke), it was wholly unpresidential. They have decided to take action:

Had tRump simply kept his mouth shut about the hack, or even condemned it (which would have been the statesman-like thing to do), this call for an investigation may not have happened. Of course - had he not decided to run for president, this potential illegality may not have occurred. But what about illegalities that occurred while he was still Citizen tRump?

One of his "businesses" was a modeling agency, based in NYC. He would sign up teenage girls for modeling contracts, and put them in a "sweatshop"-like dorm, and charge them outrageous rent for the dubious privilege of living there. Were that the only problem, then it would only be sleazy and predatory. No, he went further, and broke immigration law by recruiting and hiring illegal immigrants:

Would Citizen tRump have gotten into trouble for doing this? Per the article, it is fairly widespread and common in the industry, which is why he figured he could get away with it. Realistically he could have - were it not for his hubris driving him to seek more infamy by running for president. Modeling agencies get away with it, but they aren't presidential candidates, where scrutiny is done with a 100W bulb, and all the dark critters hidden under your bed are swept out for all to see.

As Citizen tRump, he was able to do his dirty business like anyone else. By becoming Candidate tRump, though, his hubris has pushed him to the edge of an abyss, into which he may well disappear.
