"Cheesy is one of the words banned in my world. I’m tired of sincerity being something we have to be afraid of doing. It's been like that for 20 years, that the entertainment and art world has shied away from sincerity, real sincerity, because they feel they have to wink at the audience because that’s what the kids like. We have to do the real stories now. The world is in crisis."

I wanted to tell a story about a hero who believes in love, who is filled with love, who believes in change and the betterment of mankind. I believe in it. It’s terrible when it makes so many artists afraid to be sincere and truthful and emotional, and relegates them to the too-cool-for-school department. Art is supposed to bring beauty to the world.
Those are the words of Director Patty Jenkins.

We're in a world that is somewhat adrift these days. There are many reasons and because of it, many of us needed this movie at this time.
Diana doesn't turn her back on the world when she sees it at its worst. She has moments of doubt, maybe even of despair, but ultimately she gives up everything in the name of love for a place that isn't even her home. There is power in that kind of goodness — the kind of power that can and does eclipse hate. So while I can understand that for some people a message so simple and yet so brave can feel "cheesy," it is, in fact, far more honest than the idea that there's no chance for the world to be a better place.

It's easy to give up. It's easy to walk away. It's easy to fear and is easy to despair. Those things are easy and I suspect, as we all age, it is easy to become jaded. I may have moments of all of these, but I refuse to live in those places. I refuse to give into binary thinkers what they wish upon everyone.

I choose, love, even in times of pain.

and

Raine

This is put nicely and succinctly. I was so busy enjoying the movie, I didn't stop to consider these thoughts, but they are absolutely spot-on.

Also - to TriSec and Vel: I often read your blogs on Monday morning, and at that point it seems a bit late to comment on them. They were both very good this weekend.

Good morning, bloggers!!!

My friend Elyse saw Wonder Woman and was thoroughly impressed, even if she thought the climax of the film could have been done more quickly.

We need hope. Somedays, I have to chose to have hope and to keep faith in humanity. I have heard that there are comparisons between Wonder Woman and Richard Donner's Superman film starring Christopher Reeve. That film also came out in a very cynical era.

For myself, I remember just before I saw the film that there was a terrible plane crash at Chicago's O'Hare Airport. I also read a story about how pollution was causing horrible mutations in wildlife, especially frogs. (Yes, I read newspapers as a kid.) Seeing the film was uplifting.

We all need heroes, We need real people who have faced tragedies such as Ann Frank Elie Wiesel, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Gandhi, Nelson Mandela and living ones such as Rev.William Barber. W fictional heroes such as Diana of Themyscira or her friend in the comics J'onn J'onnzz the Martian Manhunter, who lost his wife, his children, his family and his world but still takes a stand. We must not let cynicism and awareness of the evils of this world prevent us from affirming our noblest values and aspirations through words and deeds.

It always was Haram. What's interesting is the need to codify that publicly. (It's in the Koran.)

They issued a fatwa, to drive the point home, and to perhaps give Muslims pause to consider before going over to the dark side

He withdrew his name from nomination too. I get the feeling he's not as on board with this crap as his wife is.

Keep an eye on your social media accounts guys. I'm hearing that ppl have discovered their own accounts unblocking and/or retweeting Trump garbage without their knowledge or approval (i.e. they were hacked).
