Looking Beyond the Circus
Author: BobR    Date: 06/08/2017 13:13:19

Yesterday was the warm-up act, the opening band for the Big Show. Some were disappointed with the lack of revelations from Coats and Rogers (which sounds like a 70s folk duo), but there were plenty of things NOT said that indicate trouble in paradise. Today, though is what everyone has been waiting for: an unrestrained-by-his-job Comey testifying before Congress. The country as a whole - but DC in particular - is getting ready for it's big wonkgasm.

I suspect a lot of folks will be disappointed, because the only thing Comey will be able to testify to is obstruction of justice by tRump (which should be enough to get him impeached). Most of the Russia-related details will likely still be considered classified, and will have to be relegated to a secure meeting.

Representative Al Green (D-TX) (yes, that's his real name) has already begun the process of drafting a resolution for impeachment, and the testimony today should help support the request. Whether Republicans go along with it, remains to be seen.

In the meantime, other news bits may not be getting the attention they deserve. One of them was highlighted in yesterday's blog when the lesser son of tRump (Eric) declared Dems as less than human. Perhaps he should look in the mirror, because he and his father literally stole money meant for children dying of cancer:
... the Eric Trump Foundation, has been funneling donations -- from donors who believed the money was going to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital -- to the Trump Organization by paying high sums for use of Trump properties during fundraisers and re-donating some funds to charities friendly with Trump interests.

Sound familiar? It's the same scam tRump runs when he eats dinner at his own restaurants as president. Eric Trump holds fundraisers at his dad's properties, then charges top dollar to the charity for the use of the properties. And he calls US less than human??

Not related to tRump, but just as deplorable is a comment made by Karen Handel ( R ) during a debate with John Ossoff (D) for Georgia's 6th District congressional seat. John Ossoff stated he was in favor of increasing the minimum wage over time until it became a "livable wage". Karen Handel stated that she does not support a livable wage:
Ossoff, who came just shy of receiving enough votes in the April primary to avoid a June 20 runoff against Handel, said he does — that “the minimum wage should be a living wage.”

“Look, if somebody’s working a 40-hour workweek, they deserve the kind of standard of living that Americans expect,” Ossoff said. “That’s part of the American dream, and there are too many folks having trouble making ends meet.”

Handel followed up by saying the issue is “an example of the fundamental difference between a liberal and a conservative.”

“I do not support a livable wage,” she said...

[...]

The minimum livable wage for a single adult in the three counties that make up Georgia’s 6th District is $12.01 per hour, according to MIT’s Living Wage Calculator.

These two stories flying a bit under the radar are very illustrative of the Republican mindset. Screw the sick, screw the working poor (who generally work more than 40 hrs/wk just to stay above water)... I've got mine and I want more. These are the people who hate laws and regulations that keep us from regressing back 100 years to "The Jungle" of Upton Sinclair.

Here's hoping Comey's testimony today starts the ball rolling to unravel these monsters' hold on our government.

Morning

I am so trying not to put all my eggs in the Comey basket, don't want to be disappointed if (when?) tRump slips out of it all again.

In all seriousness, this is a pivotal election for the UK. But wow, that is the least slick ad ever.

I like Mark Warner. Richard Burr, not so much. Be careful ya'll, Burr is a distant relation of the Burr that killed Hamilton!

Wi-fi here got switched yesterday from the old corporate system to the new "Lighting" system. Of course, even though the new channels show up, there's no way to log in.

So I'm slamming my data allotment listening to CNN. My usual way of monitoring fark.com is blocked. Can only get here.
