Looking Beyond the Circus
Author: BobR    Date: 06/08/2017 13:13:19

Yesterday was the warm-up act, the opening band for the Big Show. Some were disappointed with the lack of revelations from Coats and Rogers (which sounds like a 70s folk duo), but there were plenty of things NOT said that indicate trouble in paradise. Today, though is what everyone has been waiting for: an unrestrained-by-his-job Comey testifying before Congress. The country as a whole - but DC in particular - is getting ready for it's big wonkgasm.

I suspect a lot of folks will be disappointed, because the only thing Comey will be able to testify to is obstruction of justice by tRump (which should be enough to get him impeached). Most of the Russia-related details will likely still be considered classified, and will have to be relegated to a secure meeting.

Representative Al Green (D-TX) (yes, that's his real name) has already begun the process of drafting a resolution for impeachment, and the testimony today should help support the request. Whether Republicans go along with it, remains to be seen.

In the meantime, other news bits may not be getting the attention they deserve. One of them was highlighted in yesterday's blog when the lesser son of tRump (Eric) declared Dems as less than human. Perhaps he should look in the mirror, because he and his father literally stole money meant for children dying of cancer:
... the Eric Trump Foundation, has been funneling donations -- from donors who believed the money was going to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital -- to the Trump Organization by paying high sums for use of Trump properties during fundraisers and re-donating some funds to charities friendly with Trump interests.

Sound familiar? It's the same scam tRump runs when he eats dinner at his own restaurants as president. Eric Trump holds fundraisers at his dad's properties, then charges top dollar to the charity for the use of the properties. And he calls US less than human??

Not related to tRump, but just as deplorable is a comment made by Karen Handel ( R ) during a debate with John Ossoff (D) for Georgia's 6th District congressional seat. John Ossoff stated he was in favor of increasing the minimum wage over time until it became a "livable wage". Karen Handel stated that she does not support a livable wage:
Ossoff, who came just shy of receiving enough votes in the April primary to avoid a June 20 runoff against Handel, said he does — that “the minimum wage should be a living wage.”

“Look, if somebody’s working a 40-hour workweek, they deserve the kind of standard of living that Americans expect,” Ossoff said. “That’s part of the American dream, and there are too many folks having trouble making ends meet.”

Handel followed up by saying the issue is “an example of the fundamental difference between a liberal and a conservative.”

“I do not support a livable wage,” she said...

[...]

The minimum livable wage for a single adult in the three counties that make up Georgia’s 6th District is $12.01 per hour, according to MIT’s Living Wage Calculator.

These two stories flying a bit under the radar are very illustrative of the Republican mindset. Screw the sick, screw the working poor (who generally work more than 40 hrs/wk just to stay above water)... I've got mine and I want more. These are the people who hate laws and regulations that keep us from regressing back 100 years to "The Jungle" of Upton Sinclair.

Here's hoping Comey's testimony today starts the ball rolling to unravel these monsters' hold on our government.

I am so trying not to put all my eggs in the Comey basket, don't want to be disappointed if (when?) tRump slips out of it all again.

FYI - the word "Matter" is lawyer-speak for "case", or more specifically, a thing that a lawyer and their client are working on

So calling it a "Matter" rather than an investigation seems to make it even more intensive.

They were talking about the Clinton Lynch tarmac meeting and then the Clinton email investigation

Trump truly screwed himself royally with his Lester Holt interview.

So did Schindler. What am I missing -- why did they both bring this up?

He's Schroedinger's FBI director. Quantum mechanics is very strange and counterintuitive.

Who?

LaRouche is one of the elders of the old hardcore Marxist/Communist movement & founder of the US Labor Party. He pretty much aligned himself and his followers with every radical and reactionary movement since the 1960s, including the KKK. His followers are the ones who shopped the Hitler moustache onto Obama's picture during the ACA debates.

Fantastic summary from Larisa Alexandrovna Horton

Key points of Comey's testimony:

1. Russia meddled in US election. Not theory. Not fake news. Not a hoax. Fact. (So the question is, why is Trump pretending it is a hoax? Would not want to take serious action to protect future elections?).

2. Trump is not currently under CI investigation (espionage).

3. Bombshell: Flynn and Sessions both knew of Flynn's contacts with Russian officials. (So the reason that Flynn was fired for lying to Pence is total bullshit).

4. While Trump did not explicitly order Comey to drop the investigation into Flynn, Comey took it that way given the setting (White House), the fact that people were asked to leave the room and they were uncomfortable doing so, and the fact that it was the POTUS "hoping" all together made Comey feel pressured.

5. Bombshell: Sessions was told about Trump's inappropriate behavior and even though he was supposed to be recused, he was part of firing Comey.

6. Steele dossier part of the ongoing CI investigation

7. Comey started taking copious notes about all Trump interactions because he did not trust Trump and thought him dishonest.

8. Comey did not want to tell the public that POTUS not under investigation (currently) because the investigation could broaden to include Trump (in the future) and he did not want to have to correct the record.

9. Bombshell: Certain Sessions activities related to Russia was not something Comey could discuss in the open setting. We can deduce this to be in reference to the series of meetings in April, 2016. Adding to the general sense that the FBI feels like they can't trust the Attorney General.

10. Bombshell: DNI Coats also knew of Flynn contacts with Russia well before Flynn resigned.

11. Comey won't discuss anything in open session about the VEB bank. (The Kushner went to ask for a bail out of his 666 property).
My sense from this is that Kushner, Sessions, Flynn, Manafort and Page are targets. My sense from this is that the FBI is hoping to flip one of them to implicate Trump and/or Pence. I still firmly believe this is primarily a RICO case but overlaps with CI.

I also don't think that the GOP will see any of this as obstruction of justice because of the word "hope". But as any women who have worked for a boss who summons you into their office and "hopes" you can have some fun knows, it's not just the choice of words, it is the entire setting that lends to the sense of being pressured.

----

That is as far as I got. I will update when I read the transcripts.

Boom:
I will make absolutely no excuses for this President not knowing the "ways of Washington" etc. As far as my research into his past reveals, he is an individual with a criminal sensibility who has consistently manipulated the court system to avoid his contractual obligations, of which there are many. I have no doubt given his history that he has colluded with Russia on its interference activities into the recent election, nor do I doubt that he is likely beholden to the Russian banking system for bailing him out as his reputation with American financial institutions are well know (that he does consistently not honor his obligations and is not loan worthy).

Mr. Comey's public under oath testimony today was a revealing look into the veiled self-serving nature of this President and his ability to purposely skirt the line between legality and criminality, and I hope it serves as a wake up call to those who refuse to grasp the import of these events and the pervasive criminality saturating the tone of the current administration.

So I'm watching BBC's return coverage and they're saying some of the results coming in are, far better for Labour than even the exit polling was saying. Meaning that beyond a hung parliament with a Tory majority, Labour & the Tories may end up with the same number of seats themselves, which might end up with Corbyn creating a coalition with the LibDems & Scots and he'd become PM.
