I know that many of you will be out and about enjoying the day. We'll be going to see this today:

Well, I get paid to tell people how awesome Boston is.

I know, that's a stretch for me.

Good morning, bloggers!!!

I am going to spend some time with friends after grading papers yesterday and having lunch with a friend who was in town. It is nice to sleep without the alarm.

How is school going for you?

Continue to try and clean out my room (it was long overdue). I have too much stuff, time to re-start ebaying which like my job search had been sidelined.

Raine, I will answer here and try to post again tomorrow.

It is going well. I have block schedules of 1 hour and 22 minutes for all classes except the homeroom. We alternate between A and B blocks.

I have a very good team and a friend who works at the school was just named the special ed liaison to the 12th grade. I already have a good idea of what I am teaching this year.

The student schedules are still all over the map. Part of the problem is that they are trying to keep classes relatively small.

Another issue is that many students have been out and will not show up until after Labor Day. This is a problem not just in Gary, one of the area's poorest communities, but in wealthier parts of the area.

Discipline is improving but I will have to be a little more strict on my larger classes.

I am concerned about the educational deficits, especially in vocabulary and writing skills. I am going to take some time daily on such things and use one out of every four A/B days for grammar and writing skills.
