Behaving Badly
Author: Raine    Date: 05/20/2011 13:05:47

Why do people support such bad behavior? I'm not talking about sexual infidelity from politicians, I am talking about politicians that block government from creating programs that genuinely help people. Addicting Info.org has a partial (from January) listing bills the GOP have blocked or attempted to :

Tax on Companies that ship jobs overseas
Political Ad disclosure bill
Subpoena Power for the Committee investigating the BP Oil Spill
The Small Business Jobs Act
The DREAM Act
Repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”

If you go over to the link, you will see how partial a list this really is. Yesterday I mentioned how Eric Cantor promised Oil companies that the GOP would block the Federal Financial Regulations set forth in the Dodd - Frank act, an act that has not even begun to take place yet. They are trying to dismantle Medicare, increase tax breaks for Corporations, bust labor... They rarely mention our troops and what they want to do to help them and our veterans.

Then there is the entire GOP war on Women and children. From abortion, to Sesame Street, to cutting health services, redefining rape-- having the IRS audit women-- they have done nothing to help women and children-- especially those that are poor. Bill after bill, their actions just infringe on women's equality.

They are hell-bent on taking way rights instead of expanding them.

They were elected by people with a mandate to do one thing for people. When I say people, I mean you, I mean me. I mean our parents and grandparents. I mean the people who take the time to go to town halls and write letters and make phone calls. They were mandated to help create JOBS. To this day, not one jobs bill has been passed. What we have seen since January is almost cult-like support for corporations, CEO's, lobbyists, PACs, the Chamber of Commerce and the Koch Brothers.

Why do people support such bad behavior by GOP? They are not only thumbing their noses at their supporters and base, they are ignoring their constituents-- many of whom might not be in the same party, but are constituents nonetheless. They are holding the Nation hostage over the Debt ceiling and are STILL threatening to shut down government. Nothing is getting done in Congress. People are being willfully ignored and lied to.

Nicole Sandler, who was arrested at a town hall meeting is not the only person being ignored, (to say the very least) . Rep. Webster threatened to kick out a town hall attendee because she asked about raising corporate taxes. You remember Dan Webster -- he defeated Alan Grayson last November. Town Hall meetings are getting more and more contentious, because the people they are supposed to represent are not being listened to or represented they way they expect. One Congressman actually told a town hall that there were NO Oil subsidies.
CONSTITUENT: No, it’s because you’re subsidising them!

ANOTHER CONSTITUENT: We are, of course paying –

ANOTHER CONSTITUENT: Why are you changing the subject?!

ANOTHER CONSTITUENT: How much do we subsidize them?!

CRAVAACK: Well, they have a lower tax rate, and they’re not really subsidized.
You see, in my world, that is a lie. It's a lie when Paul Ryan and the GOP tell you they are not out to kill Medicare. Many of the things they are doing right now are lies. That isn't a stance on a policy for me, it's just very bad behavior, and it is time Americans stopped supporting it by rewarding them with our votes. They have proven to be terribly irresponsible with our trust. They have shown themselves to be immature in the ways of governing.

Arnold and all of the tabloid fodder is really just a distraction when you think about the terrible things that are being done to people right now. Behaving badly should not be a party platform, it should be given a time out-- or better yet, a good spanking.
