It's Not the Economy, Stupid.
Author: Raine    Date: 10/13/2011 13:26:12

This may be the understatement of the year: The GOP talks a lot about the deficit and jobs. They do it ALL day long; they do it on TV, on the radio, on the web and in the papers. They are saying it on campaign trails and in town halls. They send that message via the United States Postal Service. They keep asking the President: 'Where are the jobs?" It's not just the candidates, it is also the leaders and the rank and file Republicans members of the House and Senate. Who can forget what Mitch McConnell said? The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.

They talk jobs. They talk economy. And what do they do? They attempt to pass laws curbing women's rights. From Politico:
The bill would ban federal funding of abortions. It would also ensure that providers have protections if they believe abortions violate their consciences and prohibit the tax subsidies in the health reform law from going toward a health plan that includes coverage of abortions except in cases of rape or incest or for the safety of the mother.

Planned Parenthood warns that the bill could allow hospitals to refuse to treat a patient whose life depends on having an abortion. The group argues that a hospital would be able to use the bill’s conscience clause to escape the federal law — the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act — that requires hospitals to treat all patients.
Eric Cantor says it's all part of the Economic reform and cost-cutting the GOP promised to Americans. No, really:
“That was a part of our Pledge to America that we had always said that we were going to move to eliminate government funding of organizations that perform abortions,” Cantor said on Capitol Hill on Tuesday. “That’s something that we said we were going to do, and we’re upholding that pledge.”
The bill likely won't see any movement in the Senate, and the White House has has said it would see a veto pen. The question remains: how serious is the GOP about the economy? For me, the answer is: They are not serious at all. They would rather limit a woman's right to choose - even in the case of death - and privatize health care for the elderly. They want to ban marriage equality. They are fighting to keep DOMA in place.

Let's go back to this chart I posted yesterday in the blog comments:

Take note of how things are flattening out. It was after the GOP took control of the House and we lost a super majority in the Senate. That majority had a mere 4 months life-span...

Does anyone REALLY think the GOP is going to come up with a jobs plan when they are more concerned with taking away people's rights? It's been said before but worth saying again, they are purposefully trying to hurt the economy for political gain. They are FAR more concerned with the likes of a dead Jerry Falwell and the likes of the [im]Moral Majority than they are about Americans and jobs. This is a reality: The GOP didn't create jobs before Obama, and they won't create them now. What are the odds they will actually try if they take the Senate and the White House? My bet: ZERO. They care about taking away personal choice in individual liberties from anyone not like them. Black, brown, female, gay... you name it, they are against equality and are proposing as many bills as they can to do just that.

It's not much better with the current crop of Current GOP Presidential hopefuls
In an election that’s supposed to hinge on jobs and the economy, the Republican presidential contest in recent months has been defined by almost everything else.

Immigration and children’s vaccines. Race and religion. Homosexuality and health care. The issues range far from the economic woes that concern most voters, but they have captivated Republicans in New Hampshire and other early voting states, providing the candidates with ways to distinguish themselves from their rivals. The biggest applause lines on the campaign trail usually have little to do with a candidate’s economic positions.
In other words, they talk one game and totally walk another. The economy is stalled, and the blame lies with them for not passing the American Jobs Act. They are more concerned with social issues, and not in a good way. This frustrates me almost more than anything else. Why people trust them to fix the economy at all is beyond my comprehension. They have a terrible track record.

They are however very good at bait and switch. James Carville once famously said: It's the economy, stupid, and - for the Dems (particularly the President) and a majority of America - it still is. It's quite the opposite for this Republican Party.

When my Ovaries create a job, I might change my mind... Until then, they are simply lying to Americans. OR maybe they aren't:

"The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president"

It seems they have a few other things they want to achieve while they try reach that goal. In the meantime, they are clearly showing how little they care for the Average American voter. I would dare say they show contempt - not just for the President, but for Americans. For the GOP, you are too stupid to know they are not about about the economy, and never were.
